I still do my own oil changes. That kid may do more than Ill do in a lifetime but if they are all done shabby....my few becomes better than his 1000.

Yea they definitely want an incompetent boob doing oil changes. Making sure you don’t come back for repairs. Makes sense to me.

You say it like that doesn't happen. It does not matter in the least what profession it is in, there is incompetence. The lettering on my tailgate has now been done three times due to it. The same guy gouged part of the plastic trim trying to fix my seat cover. That same guy also couldn't put the foam back on correctly. We have all heard horror stories about mechanics who seemingly forgot to put the oil back. Don't get me wrong, I am not saying it happens 10% of the time or any great number but it does indeed happen. It doesn't really suck til its you that has to be that one.

I’m not saying there’re all perfect. I’m my 66 years I’ve seen incompetence. Not everyone suited for the job. Have you noticed the last year in a half. It happens even in the most important occupation. I use to do all my work when I bought used vehicles they were usually beaters when I was younger first married. As I bought newer vehicles with warranty I used them for service. It’s easy to determine who’s at fault. Ifs there’s a problem. If they do all the work. I watch they know it, they probably have it on the work sheet. Because I’m a frequent customer. No problem doing your own work. Been there done that. I’ve moved on. At my age I do what I want. Oil changes for the most part, not on the list.

Yeah the last year and a half has just gotten more nuts than everything was. Im only almost 50 and have done my own since I purchased my first ride. Its cheaper for me to do it myself even though its getting harder to get under there. I do keep impeccable records though .

Yes, there are service folks at dealers that should be in another occupation.

There are also some that could be having a bad day.

 

Otoh, there are also lots of owners that should be told to 'back away from the toolbox'. 

 

One of my fears when acquiring used vehicles/machines is that it might have been in the hands of one of those owners.

Just because they are very good with the appearance care does not mean that are good with mechanical servicing.

Very true, and it bothers me to no end when I hear "car wash" guys try to speak as though they are mechanics, and vice versa.

Specifically referring to the crank/no start situation. I have a ‘21 sierra 3.0 and it was doing the crank/ start situation as well as a few other things. I took it back to the dealership for repairs and they said they had heard of it and there was a TSB on the issue. Their first repair is a shim on the reluctor wheel, if that works your good, if not they have to tear the motor down and do some other repair. They did the reluctor wheel shim on mine and it has been flawless since then, almost a year.

Don’t believe they are even doing that anymore. It’s just an ECU reflash now which gets rid of the issue.

If anyone has a lead on the software for programming the lm2 pcm, kindly reach out to me as I'm planning a custom build for the near future and we would really like to use this 2021 lm2 and transmission in this classic truck. Sadly it's not the same as previous duramax mods.. im sure someone has found a way by now. Again im just looking for help on the software sode of this, Please reach out, and thanks in advance, George
