Thinking you forgot the "golf cart for two" from a prior post😂🤣🤣😂😮

I don't even remember what that thread was about but it was on topic. Had to let the people know the side by side 🏳️‍🌈

OP.  Its a truck that GM builds in excess of 1 MILLION every year.  There is going to be flaws, and life is too short to worry about every single one on it.

I was literally told "orange peel' was unavoidable in a production paint job after witnessing it's absence in decades of factory finishes. I hate it when people tell me I didn't see what I saw and worse? Not seeing what I'm looking at.

Start at about the 4:23 mark.

I always wondered why the lapse in quality of the paint on new cars. I guess now we know its purposely done to hide the other short cuts they take. I remember when orange peel in a cars paint was a hard no and a sign of poor craftsmanship.

There is an entire universe between Koenigsegg and GM. Most of it would be acceptable and affordable. But as he notes they 'build in' the flaws to hide flaws. Laughable. I walk up to a $100K Vette or Blackwing and see the same Earl Scheib $29.95 paint job they put on the $15K Sonic.

My truck came with field repainted dirt in the fenders and roof and paint thin enough to see the primer through. Unacceptable even on a Sonic. That isn't anything but "I don't care" and "you cant make me" like kids in a school yard.

Come on now.  Earl Scheib didn't tape or prep.  They painted over everything, including badges and nameplates.  GM at least waits for the paint to dry before putting badges and nameplates on.

OP, if you want a new fender where the holes are in a different position by 2mm you'll need to make it yourself.  Having it repaired via warranty will not fix the problem.  The new fender will come from the same assembly line where your original fender was stamped.  "Man Card" holders also recognize this.  The self-described men will roll up their sleeves and fix the issue, such as removal of parts, sanding to bare metal, filling hole, making new hole in correct location, priming, painting, clearing, and reinstalling everything.  There's probably a few more steps involved, but I think I made the message clear.  Is it really worth it to you to do all that for less than 1/12 of an inch?  If so, feel free to write up a tutorial so others can see your work.  Include pictures.  Everybody on the internet loves pictures.

Btw, there's a good possibility you missed an even more obvious manufacturing snafu.  Do the body lines between the cab and bed line up on the driver side?  This is one GM actually has a fix for via the dealership installing shims.

Not necessarily true on the fender hole piece. I'm not sure if GM is hydroforming or stamping out these fenders but either way the hole punching would be a separate operation either on a second stage in a press or on a second machine. There is always risk of variability during machine setups or following PM's/ repairs. Same tool/ machine doesn't guarantee same dimensions which is why there are tolerances that are constantly checked. That even extends to things like plastic injection molded panels where different temperatures and handling during cool down can impact dimensions.

The cab and bed alignment is very good on my truck.
