I have a 2019 LTZ with 6.2 15,000 mi. Past the 3yr 36,000. It’s just sitting in storage for now waiting for me to relocate this spring. I have someone starting it every couple weeks and they have to jump it. My question is is there a better battery then the factory GM one? Or will the local auto parts store work. Thanks

Better is tough, the lead acid batteries are nearly the same.

There are 3 major manufactures of batteries in the United States, it basically makes no difference on who you bought a battery from. They are all made to very very similar specs and only the color of the case and the label is the biggest difference between them.

If you want to switch away from a lead acid battery I would suggest a AGM (absorbent glass mat) style battery.

The AGM's are geared towards very well equipped vehicles with lots of electronics because they will handle it better and should last longer overall than a lead acid battery. They do run about $50 more than a standard battery and right now they are pretty hard to find too.

The batteries in our trucks are the AGM battery not the typical lead plate battery they are alot better battery then the lead plate battery, but it takes them awhile to become fully charged so starting truck up for say 1/2hr does nothing to charge them you're really running the battery down even further by doing so. To get them up to full charge the truck would have to run for hours for a completely run-down battery. If you get a battery tender or charger MAKE sure its compatible for an AGM battery. A typical charger when on an AGM battery will burn up the battery do to it not shutting completely off when the battery reaches full charge. A typical lead plate battery should not be installed in vehicles that call for an AGM battery as the charging system in our trucks and vehicles that have that type of battery are very complex.

AGM's charge faster than lead acid batteries according to Interstate Battery.

Also the 2019+ trucks came with both style batteries from the looks of it. You can buy either or. GM Parts Direct and same with Napa online list both options for these trucks.

Fun fact too, GM only lists one alternator for the V8 trucks too. So the charging system is the same for both batteries. They also already have a smart charge system that is PCM controlled, been that way for 15 years now. Not trying to discredit the above post but it's not as complicated as he made it sound.

I’m going to try a new Odyssey AGM along with the tender. It’s also sending me a Onstar report sayin the antilock brakes and power train needs attention ASAP. Hopefully it’s do to the low voltage.

Just purchase a battery tender for an AGM battery and you will be fine.  No need to get paralysis through analysis.

A low battery will cause all sorts of error codes and messages to pup up.  Charge the battery or get a new one and put a battery tender on it and you will be fine.

    • I just bought one of these.   https://www.topdon.us/collections/diagnostic-tools/products/artidiag-pro   Yeah, it`s got a cable. $250/year after 2 years. Do I want more? Yep. But, I`m not working any more and can`t afford a whirlpool in my tool box.
    • Why don't I have a good scanner? I've always wanted one when I've needed one.   My latest reading says I don't need to do a relearn on the ckp sensor on a 1995 with OBD 1.5. The relearn is prescribed for the later-model 1995's which shipped with actual OBD II when GM completed the transition in prep for the 1996 MY. I need to confirm that. Did you know forums are disappearing? Knuckleheads on Facebook... it's not the same. It's just not.   So, scanners. Again, shooting myself in the foot for having eBayed my Snap On MT2500 "brick" with all the adapters. Not that I couldn't buy another but those are getting quite old, and mine wasn't new enough to work on 2000's vehicles.   Damn it (as I'm scanning my email between paragraphs here). Did you know there's a 2000 Jimmy 2-door on BaT that's ending this morning? It's local. I want it. 14k miles. Absolutely beautiful.   Back to scanners. MT2500's are old. Solus, now that could be a contender. There's a ~2008 Verus with a system error that's basically new in box for cheap. Hmm...I'm not sure about a scanner that runs an archaic version of windows (95 or CE, I can't tell).   I want the ability to reset and rotate TPMS, test individual modules, bleed ABS, electronic parking brake controls for servicing brakes, relearn procedures and other bidirectional controls.   Snap On does an MT2600. It's a new model as of last year, marketed as their "entry" scanner. Entry? Only where $1900 gets you through the doorway plus, I'm guessing, $1000/year if you wish to keep it current. So goes scan tools actually designed for production environments. Want decent products with excellent support, you pay for it.   Everyone is raving about Autels and TopDons and Foxconns and all these newer brands that are selling the $500 "prosumer" scanners for backyard hacks like me. They're tempting...honestly. Updates are cheaper, base prices are remarkably cheaper... And you get to deal with bugs and translation whoopsies and, well, just don't use it on anything expensive, OK? Having a dealer replace an ECU because it needs to be re-imaged after an adventure in scanning is no joke. But I think most people are getting by OK with these units.   eBay on a scratch-and-sniff pro-model oldie, a shiny new TopDon, or???   God dang it, I can't stop looking at this Jimmy. I'm ready! I'll Bring The TRailer! It's beautiful.
    • I removed the OE running boards.  It looked so much better.  I wish I took them off a long time ago.     I had to put something back on for my wife.  I wanted Westin Sure Grip Running Boards but they are very pricey, like $600 plus.  I was going to go with the Ionic 41's like I had on the 2019 Silverado but went with Westin Outlaw Drop Steps instead, about $200 cheaper.  They are sturdy and functional but not super crazy about the look, but it works.
    • It's all a crock of 💩
    • I had a Gen5DIY DRL relocate harness from a 2022 1500 that I saved. I had Gen5DIY modify the harness for my 2024 Silverado 2500. Plug n Play, worked perfectly.    Here's a video I made for the 2022 1500 truck. The install is more or less the same on a 2500.    The harness relocates the DRL tot he top amber turn signal on my 2500.
