The 6.2 is a great engine, but the 8-speed it may be saddled to is kind of crap. 6.2 isn't going to be a huge help towing, you'll run of out frame and suspension before you run out of motor.

Which I never understood because the same motor and trans in the corvette and Camaro is amazing. The 1-2 shift feels like you got rear ended.

Thankfully I have the 6.2 with 6 speed. Which is nice but can’t handle mods.

Thank You Mandalorian and truckguy82.

Speaking of Transmission, next morning after buying truck 125 miles away, took truck to my local dealer because of a Shuttering effect.  Local dealer thought the torque Converter was bad and gave an estimate of $1,900.

Left there and took truck back to where I bought it.  Over another week they changed the fluid, no luck, then torque converter, no luck, so they Installed a Recondition GM Built transmission, 12 month 12,000 mile warranty with no cost to me.  Anyways, really like the truck, but not to sure I made a good purchase.

You have essentially a new transmission. Not sure if I would trust the selling dealer though. Maybe take it to the local dealership and have them put in the Mobil 1 Blue Label Fluid just to be safe. It might be worth the money for peace of mind.

Thank You Jim,

Mobil 1 Blue Label Fluid is a Great Idea.

Going to change engine, differential, axle fluids, and plugs & wires next week, might as well do trans fluid also.

I read an article where a gm spokesperson made a comment that there is some mechanical difference's between the two. He basically described it as as being needed because a truck does truck things, and a car does car things. Maybe it's in the torque converter, or maybe it's in the trans too :dunno:

There is a couple different tc the cars have pending engine/transmission.

You are very welcome.

Sounds like a good solid plan for the truck.

The 8 speed issues people complain about (aside from the fluid issues and trans temp harness) are nearly all from programming. Gen 5 stuff is torque-based and quite complex. MAF affects VVE. VVE affects torque calculations. And if your torque calculations are off then the shift will be off. This is an over simplified explanation of how the engine side affects shifting. Then, there's the wonky programming in the TCM. Primary issue being the shift scheduling and torque converter lockup schedule. Tune that out and slowly and methodically dial in the engine side - and these 8 speeds shift great.

Yes, there's some occasional weirdness, like the first 1-2 when the trans is cold always sucks and sometimes downshifts get clunky.
