Terez Posted March 1, 2022 Posted March 1, 2022 I know there is a shiton of threads and info out there....I got a headache reading 2018 5.3l 1500 Lookin for a user friendly affordable tuner to: AFM delete Select tire size improve shift points and firmness improve pedal response a few different tunes for modest power Bought this truck new....put up with the lazy retarded shifting, lazy throttle response and annoying afm v4 crap till now...cant take it anymore Truck is out of warranty now too Running 275/70/18 tires ...two lightly Dont need the lkatest greatest tuner or capability for huge mods and fancy features Thanks
Terez Posted March 1, 2022 Author Posted March 1, 2022 Prefer to use a plug/play tuner so I can alter it/delete it at will
CamGTP Posted March 1, 2022 Posted March 1, 2022 Either going to be Diablo or the Superchips device. Just know you are still limited on what those will do but for the most part they probably will do what you want. Your only other option for a tuner is HP Tuners but that is a do it yourself tuner that requires the user to learn how to tune instead of just pushing buttons. I've been using HPT for 10+ years now and wouldn't have it any other way but that is because I've learned how to tune vehicles like these.
HoosierZ Posted March 1, 2022 Posted March 1, 2022 I had the same complaints with my 2016. I have a Hypertech Max Energy programmer. The throttle response and shift response adjustments made the biggest difference and make the truck enjoyable to drive. It no longer feels neutered and it actually goes when I push the gas pedal down instead of it hesitating. Turning off the AFM made virtually no difference at all in my gas mileage.
scralatchtica824 Posted March 1, 2022 Posted March 1, 2022 I got my custom tune from Lew using the diablosport i3 intune. The out of the box tune that came with the i3 was definitely an improvement but the custom tune from the data logs I sent to him for $150 was well worth it. It's hard to calculate the fuel mileage difference but it was improved even further from the out of the box one. The truck feels lighter and accelerates through the gears effortlessly and that's on 87/89 tune.
boettcher40 Posted March 1, 2022 Posted March 1, 2022 ^^X2. Lew's tunes are really good, definitely wakes the truck up. I was shocked the first time I filled with E85 and put it to the floor..
dieselfan1 Posted March 2, 2022 Posted March 2, 2022 Superchips Flashpaq F5 I ran one on my 2018 . It did everything on your list.
