I am considering swapping to the ctsv/ZL1 converter also. I have a 16 Silverado 5.3 6l80 full exhaust, tune , 6.2 intake, what’s the stall ratting on our stock converter , and what’s the stall rating on the CTSV/ZL1 converter? Is there really any benefits going  to one of those converters?

JMBX torque converter stall speed is around 1600 rpms behind my 5.3.  Behind my daughter's 6.2, it stalls at about 2100 rpms.

I have read about people using the ZL1 converter but would prefer a JMBX 300mm with Sonnax parts instead.

Lucas,

I like how you have set up the two modes separately. I recently rebuilt my 4l60e with a HD rebuild kit from ProBuilt Automatics, Corvette Servo, upgraded Edge TC, Sonnax pressure booster, Tru cool 40K, etc...and now I need to due some tuning. Line pressure has been increased mechanically with new pressure booster valves and transgo shift plate. TCC bypassed with PMW eliminator valve.

Problem is, everyone is tuning for street/drag whereas I am trying to tune for towing. I would like the normal mode to be more comfortable for driving around town, and the Tow mode for best towing reliability and longevity. Right now in normal mode I get a slamming engagement from the transmission between 3rd and 4th gear, both when accelerating and decelerating.

Do you think this is the HD TC locking and unlocking? What general recommendations would you use to tune the tranny for driveability around town and then better hauling in Tow mode? When should I have TC engage in each mode? Can I modulate the shift pressures differently in each mode?

I am new to tuning and still deciding between an all-in-one like diablo, or going with HP Tuners...What do you guys think?

Appreciate any advice or opinions on different tuners for transmissions!

if your running a 4L60 I would suggest having the tcc operate off a switch you can manually activate from in the cab, that what i use to do on my older transmission that where not computer controled

slamming between 3-4th could be having too much line pressure or oversized servo and?

i would switch back to the stock valve body plate and stock servo for towing....

sounds like you need to find a trans tuner to correct for overkill mods.

I highly suggest watching 4l60e  rebuild and study how the circuits and mechanics function.  great resource for knowlege is the old guy at precision transmissions, check his youtube for thier number

HP Tuners all the way. Such a better long term investment. Even if you decide that you can't properly tune it, you already have the equipment to pay a pro for just a tune. I actually just did this with Pat G out of Victoria. I decided that I don't have the knowledge or time to tune a torque-based heads/cam truck.

In regards to your issues, I'm wondering if the stock calibration is leaving the TCC locked during the 3-4 shift. With the PWM-mod, it will engage harder.

Tuning the shift scheduling for towing won't be much different than a "sport" style tune. The idea is just to hold gears longer. I'd keep the TCC locked at around 40 MPH and up if you do a lot of 40+ MPH driving. If it's all city, that's a different story. You'll be fighting some heat with the TCC unlocked.

The HP Tuners forum has a big section on GM Transmissions with a lot of wisdom. Just takes time to learn.

OK thanks guys! I was reading about a 3 way switch for TC where you can leave it to operate electronically, or you can manually switch it on and off. Might be a hardware solution to a software issue.

For the tuning part, what I'm hearing is that when driving around town with no trailer, do not lock the TC until already in 4th gear. This will keep it a smoother ride for up/down shifts in traffic. When towing, hold low gears longer and have TC engage in 3rd to help reduce heat. Correct me if wrong, but the TC has to disengage to shift to 4th and then reengage? I think this is where I am feeling the harshness, and not so much the gear shifts. 1-2-3 are all nice and smooth....

Thanks for the recommendation on HP Tuners, I have been debating which one to get. I saw a used MPVI2+ with 6 credits.

Has anyone used this model? It looks like this model is wireless? Can I run it from a tablet, or do I need a full laptop?

Thanks again!
