Hey everyone, have a 21 HC that has a GVWR of 11,350 (something like that), and I am trying to figure out how to go about getting it down to 10k. I am pretty sure the sticker on the pillar does not even show the GVWR for the truck. I seen the other post talking about it but it appeared they were asking before purchasing. It also mentioned there is no actual difference in the trucks from on rating to the other. I am in VA, and currently getting raped by personal property taxes and registration fees. Everything VA references regarding weights in their rules is "Gross Weight" which you can change with new registration paperwork and is separate from GVWR. I am not sure which weight they are actually using though for registration purposes. I see on the Chevrolet website your can build out the HC with the lowered 10k option. Has anyone been successful lowering the GVWR post purchase? Or been able to get Chevrolet issue a new sticker?

There will be 3 stickers on the door post. There are printed specific to the vehicles VIN.

Tire and loading info.

Trailering information.

And one that has 'Manufactured by' info with s/n and the QR code containing highlights of the installed options.

The GVWR is definitely in the included information.

I have no idea what VA's registration rules are, or if you can 'elect' to register it with a lower GVWR.

AFAIK, the only way to get 10,000 GVWR on a 2500 is to order the C7A option.

There are restrictions on the C7A option

For 2021 2500 Silverado:

C7A         Lowered GVWR, 10,000 lbs. (4536 kg), lowers GVWR and significantly decreases towing and/or payload ratings.

your not going to get them to change it once it is built.  Had a truck registered in Va for about 5 months when I was in the Army and got that thing different plates ASAP, as Va is probably the worst state for vehicle ownership.

Pay the man or move, can't change the GVWR unless you come across someone inept.  When I registered mine in Florida they asked the curb weight but being honorable told them they were looking for GVWR.

It’s interesting how different the approaches of the states are. In WA, a newer 2500hd yearly registration is probably well over 500, but my 2021 3500hd renewal a month ago was only $110.

In the Light Rail Transit Authority (RTA) area of the greater Seattle area of WA state 1 ton and larger trucks are not assessed the annual RTA Tax which for newer vehicles can run into many hundreds of $.
