2005 GMC 2500 4 door - Dome light not coming on when drivers door opens? all other doors make light come on?

So I am new to this forum -- just bought a 2005 GMC Sierra 2500 with 48k on it -- love this truck so far I have the 8.1 L and its 4x4 - yes I know gas is crazy right now but just love driving big cars and trucks --- anyway I have notice that the drivers door does not operate the dome light?? when I first open the drivers door the light kinda wants to come on a split second and then nothing... now all the other doors will turn the light on as normal -- I am thinking the door latch assembly might be the problem? But I thought you experts might have a say so in this matter? also it looks as if 6 wires go to this assembly -- 3 pairs plug in to it? what are they used for? thanks in advance

Throwing parts at issues is a costly solution that does not always net the result you're looking for. Be weary of that. When troubleshooting problems on vehicles its best to start with the simplest and most basic steps first. In this case, it's the wiring. 

 

GMT900s can have weak wiring harnesses in the door to cab rubber boot. Start there first and confirm no wires are split or splitting. I had an airbag sensor issue for the rear drivers side passenger door that was fixed due to a broken wire. The drivers door, when closed, did not trip an SRS code, but when open would. My friends 'Do would not play music through the passenger door when open, but worked when closed. A spliced broken wire fixed those issues right up. Start there first, give the wiring a good inspection and it may be a cheap fix.

great idea -- I have heard about the boot problems before..... I will check it out

It never occurred to me that the problem might be in that body to door wiring boot, I did have the boot out (on my '06 Avalanche) while fishing new wire to the door speaker, I naturally looked over the bundle there but just looked. I found you can get the door latch switch for just about any price you want to pay. Partsgeek.com had them form $17.00 to $94.00.... which one do you buy? I got one for about $30.00. It's a real pain to change. The problem persisted, the radio would stay on after opening the door, don't know about the door light. Opening other doors would shut off the radio then wouldn't.

I'm thinking the body control modual? Other guys here can speak to that better than I.

I sold the truck to my ex so now it's her problem.

SOLVED

So I took a guess and changed out the door latch assembly - problem solved and works great -- I also run amp research drop down steps... its the same sensor that lets the steps deploy when door is opened -- watched this great video on youtube and learned how to change it out -- great video
