Bed mat on top of factory spray-in bedliner?

I actually use my multipro, so I was thinking if I do the XLT, I would go with the model that is designed for that. But, why do you say you would consider the model with the sides of the bed, when you already have the spray-in liner? I ask, because maybe there's something else that I haven't considered, but should.

No just makes it look a little cleaner thats all. Around the edges if that makes sense. If you do use your multipro that is probably the way to go then

I've had full Bedrug liners and the XLT. The full look more finished and acts like a sound deadener, too. The XLT was fine. It keeps crud from falling in between the tailgate and bed. The key is to have the connector "pucker" up when closing on either style. You don't want it wedged in between the tailgate and bed. No bueno. I had some in open beds while living in Florida and they still looked new after a couple of years of Florida sun and rain. I'm likely going with the GMC rubber mat with this next one. If this deal comes together next week.

Preventing stuff from "falling through the crack" is one reason I would want the XLT. Was it easy to "train" the XLT to pucker up, or did you always have to manually pull it up?

Also, why a rubber mat this time instead of Bedrug, either in bed mat only, or XLT?

The Bedrugs naturally pucker up and create a small fold which really doesn't affect anything. Why change? Good question. Just a change, I guess. The truck I hope comes available on Monday has the CarbonPro bed and I want something without velcro and is held in place with its weight.

Agree, my full BedRug always puckered up in a way as to stay out of the crack. Not sure what might have caused that to do otherwise for anyone else. My issue was that the edge never stayed attached to the tailgate. It’s only stuck on with double sided tape and Velcro and I just couldn’t get it to stick. Tried replacing the Velcro two times (three including the original install) in two years of ownership and just couldn’t get it to stay.

I wonder if there's a way to use the 3M double-sided tape, you know, the one that's designed for exterior applications. I have a 2001 Corvette that came with body side mouldings, and I didn't like the look. After being on the car for three years, it took a blow dryer, fishing line used as a garrote, and plenty of patience to get that 3M tape off. Has anyone tried using 3M tape on the back of the velcro piece that adheres to the tailgate?

You need to use alcohol cleaner and the adhesion promoter. That stuff makes the velcro tape stick like it's welded on. And, make sure not to disturb it for a day.

I used alcohol but never used the adhesion promoter. I’m not sure if the original installer used it.

Ditto on the alcohol cleaner then adhesion promoter. It is like it’s welded on. I had to rip one of the long strips that was on the bed to make an adjustment and it torn up bits of the line-x. Had little pop rocks candy sized chunks of line-x on the adhesive side.

Wow! That stuff is THAT good? So why do so many people report having problems with it staying put? With the promoter, do you still have to do it when it's warm and not mid-winter? Also, I am leaning toward the XLT mat so my concern is more on the tailgate plastic, or whatever that material is that they use to make the tailgate liner look like the spray-in stuff in the bed.

I put some of the shorter double sided tape on the plastic tailgate and so far it hasn’t fallen off either. Put it on in the Spring and now the temps here are 14F - 23F, so the cold hasn’t effected it…yet.

And I have to concur with @Jus Cruisin said about needing the connector to pucker up. Struggle to get the tailgate to close properly when it wasn’t puckering up. Once you have that folded right, it will stay that way every time you open and close it.

I think the issue with cold temps is when installing. Once the adhesive has had time to set up and cure, I don't think the cold temps will affect it. On the other hand, I could see how heat, as in 130 degrees under a tonneau in hot weather, might cause the adhesive to melt.

I still have not put in a bed rug or rubber mat. To those who went with rubber mat, is the factory rubber mat thicker, "stickier", or any other way better than aftermarket? I ask because a friend of mine got an aftermarket, and it looks thinner and made of a more plastic-ky type of material which I don't want. In fact, my wife got a husky liner for the back of her little Mazda cx5, and everything slides around on what feels like cheap plastic. That's the last thing I want, because my original intent was to get something that helps prevent things from sliding around.

I have a spray in linner, so i added a piece of carpet ( Living room remodeld , works great . i just roll up up ,take it out for wood chips. ect. LOT CHEAPER $$
