Backing out of the garage, i smell the exhaust every single time.

cold, warm, hot...

anyone else?

I don't think i have an exhaust leak (nothing audible).   could it be bad seals? doors? rear sliding window?

I hate to ask the stupid question but the garage door is opened before you start the truck correct?

Exhaust exits the back. You back towards it especially in the morning you will sometimes smell it. Especially diesels.

yes, the door is open.  i'm not a complete moron. :D

I never experienced this with my old truck, a tacoma, nor my wife's car.

Understandably, backing up through the exhaust can produce some smell in the car, but it's as if i have the windows down and a fan aimed into the cab.  I usually end up rolling down the windows for a bit after getting going.  It's really bad.

I have to say, after 20 years of not driving american vehicles, I've quickly been reminded as to why I stopped in the first place.

Enclosed area. Any just started engine has no pollution controls. Even if warm from before. Cat must be 600 degrees before it controls the fumes. Ever notice any vehicle that passes you on highway smells like hell? Floor it and no pollution controls, or Cat 'cleans" itself and expels stinky crap.  You have a few years on this engine, drive the piss out of it when hot, and no cops around! You probably have buildup in Cat

it honestly smells like unburnt fuel.  pig rich.   I assume it's just the start up process, but again, it happens ever when the truck is warm  (went out, came home, parked for 5 min, leaving again...)   In this case, the catalysts should be warm and functioning.

my gas mileage is nothing to brag about but i don't think it's an issue.   i'm getting 13-17 around my hilly town.
