I love the south....but....I do have a few issues with it!

I love the south for sure, especially because I'm from Maine.  The mild winters and the hot summers, I love the heat.  BUT....our pollen season is insane.  It will typically start mid Feb and run though mid May!!  No joke.  You can't enjoy the spring time here by opening up your windows in your house or car and if you don't have allergies and move here, you will eventually.  It's the only time of year I beg for rain and than it's just a few hours of relief.  It rained like hell yesterday.  This is a pic of how my vehicles look today.  Luckily the fall here is to die for, I call it a Maine summer during that time.

My wife is visiting her sister in Greene, Me.  Here's a pic she sent me this morning.  Over a foot of snow that started last night and it's still snowing...lol...

I'm with you there.  At least that pollen doesn't rust the heck out of my vehicles.  Do you all get the extended pollen season like we do?

 

I know of 5 of my high school class mates that moved to Texas.  2 in Austin, 2 in Houston and 1 in Grapevine.  They love it there.  A lot of us went south except for the hardcore "we love the snow and cold ones" that just love the winters up there.

We spent two weeks at Stone mountain last March so I know exactly what you mean. The pine trees are always the worst. Our previous house had lots of White pines around it and you could see the pollen on a windy day, it looked like smoke. 

 

I just spent 3 hrs snowblowing and shoveling this morning from the 10" of snow we got yesterday. I would gladly trade you.

LOL, you should see the cloud above Atlanta.  It used to be smog years ago, now its pollen....it's cool to see but hard to deal with on a daily basis...

I saw a microscopic view of a piece of pollen, it looks like a baseball with needles sticking out of it. No wonder its so tough on the paint. We lucked out when we were at Stone mountain, several good rain storms kept us rinsed off pretty well. The hardest part was the unsupervised kids throwing rocks in the road near our site, but thats a whole other thread.

Were you all camping there?  Great place to visit.  I've been going there (not to camp) since 1987.  We typically go there once every 2 to 3 years to enjoy the laser show and the sites.

Yes, the section of the campground we were in was very nice with a view of the mountain. We rode the cable car to the top and saw the granite mining exhibit. Unfortunately the train wasnt running at the time so we missed that. I have been meaning to see it for some time and just finally got around to it. I have studied civil war history for many years so it was kind of a must see.

So very cool there.  Great amount of history that will soon be destroyed...Trust me on that...Hit me up if you ever are near Atlanta again...Let's do a drive in night at the starlight drive in.....why not?  So much fun for all!!!

Lots of history in Kennesaw too.  Along with Forsyth county.  let us never forget history....that will be our downfall for sure if we do because we surely don't want to repeat it.

Unfortunately the kids coming out of school these days think America started on the day they were born.  They have little sense of time or history generally speaking.  

 

My wife and I have done our best to raise our children for the Lord and to teach them about America's real history, from her discovery to now with a special emphasis on WW2, the Civil War and Communism's role in those conflicts all the way through today.  We've visited battlefields, Stone Mountain, The General, ship memorials, etc. and remind them of significant days in our country's past at dinner, such as Pearl Harbor, Armistice Day and George Washington's Thanksgiving Proclamation.

 

I hope they carry it on and never forget.
