HOW TO RESET 99-06 GMC SIERRA FUEL MPG DISPLAY INFO

I HAVE AN 05 GMC SIERRA 5.3 GAS 2WD TRUCK.  THE  DIC SAYS 13.1 MPG. AND DOES NOT CHANGE THIS IS INCORRECT. AND I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW HOW TO RESET THE DIC.  ANY HELP GREATLY APPRECIATED.

Reset the trip odometers to zero!   But it will take many miles to average. 0 miles can't be averaged..

Press and hold (I think) the one of the buttons on the steering wheel. On my '06 Avi it gave only instant mileage (that was the impression) it never changed unless I changed it. I thought it was useless but why design it that way; so I'm not sure it worked correctly or I was wrong.....

display the AVG MPG - then hold the "check mark" button for 10-15 seconds on steering wheel.  this will reset it.  do this every fill up
