Cargo lamps - do I have to enable at every start up?

Hey guys,

 

Until recently, I had actually forgot that my truck had the cargo lights.  Looking in the manual and online, I do see the button to "ENABLE" the Cargo lamps, but I am not clear if this has to be done every single time I start the truck, or if they should stay enabled once I push the button just once. 

 

Also, how long do they stay on after exiting the truck?

Not sure I am understanding your questions. When I enable my cargo lights with the engine off they come on. When I start the truck and the transmisson is in park the cargo lamps illuminate when I enable the cargo lamps, when I shift the trans into gear the lights turn off, when I put the trans back in park the lights automatically come back on without having to reenable them. If the cargo lamps are enabled and you exit the truck the lamps will stay on indefinitly or untill the truck turns them off automatically to conserve battery power. Thanks man.  That does answer my question.  So, you do basically have to enable every single time you enter the truck, essentially just like I have to toggle to SPORT mode for the trans, or say, disable the AUTO STOP.  I am just surprised they stay on indefinitely until the power save kicks in.  (Now that you mentioned it, I just checked the manual again, and it says they stay on for 20 minutes.) 

 

I wish it was a one time enable, similar to the Auto Headlights, or say, the transfer case settings, where, once you set it, it remains until you change/disable them.
