250k and sold to a friend who got another 100k....other trucks have no idea

After 15yrs of owning a truck I am done....its not worth putting money into......1 million miles is insane...

Hell I doubt if most are even doing 150k and selling em

Point being simple oil changes will suffice for longer than most want or need a truck to last

We aren't shooting for Guinness worlds records

I do not disagree and your point is taken and so, for the 'most' do as you please. Most will go that far with almost no care.

As for your last thought. I never thought of it as a Record making event or trying to get on some special list, Guinness. I look at it in practical terms. The less "Stuff" I buy the less money I needed. Buying and owning a vehicle today is mind numbingly expensive.

There are only a few larger family cars left to buy and all are over $40K. SUV's and Trucks have taken over the 6 seat market and that price is starter level. I've never spent a fraction of $40K to double the milage I get from one to eliminate the cost of the second. I watch and buy good low mile boats no one wants and stay a few deep so I don't need a loaner. Dizzy was in the shop for six weeks this last time. I pulled out one of the two low mile Buicks and enjoyed the drive. Both of them together didn't cost the price of a new Terrain. The dealership I bought it from a 8 years ago offered 5K more for it that I bought it for when they saw it. I asked, "And what would I replace it with?" He had nothing......

Pepper is nearing 200K. I've spent twenty dollars or less in abnormal repair parts and a few hundred in installation cost. My 'boutique" oils and extra services have cost a few hundred more. Most of that has already paid for itself. An ON SPEC alignment, for example and aggressive tire pressure, balance and rotate program ran my first set of tires safely to 125K miles. I spent less than half in 'extra' cost of the replacement set of tires.

You've seen recent photos of Pepper. Inside, outside, under the hood. Cars with 20K on them look worse from the general public.

No sir. It isn't a record I'm after. Nor is it fame. Just keeping people that did work for my money out of my pocket!

Grumpy,

Pride of ownership, protecting your investment go a long way. Keeping vehicles longer is the way to beat high costs today.

Amen.

Like first impressions. You get one shot do get it right. And like first impressions, most don't care.

I like vehicles. I never know how one is going to sit with me until I have it about six months. With my business I kept one no more than 3 years. They didn’t come out of my personal pocket. A write off. Some rotated through the business. My wife loves her Genesis it’s 12 years old close to 130K it can pass as one year old. It’s a pleasure to drive. She says it’s her last doesn’t care what it takes. We don’t use it on trips same with my personal favorite the avalanche. When I come across a newer clean one I’ll buy it. I don’t spend lots of money. The trip vehicle currently the Odyssey is on the clock. 200K miles is probably the max. Or until it becomes annoying. I’ve never been shy about getting a different vehicle for a trip vehicle. I’m eyeing the mini trucks. I’m waiting for all the players to show up. Still haven’t driven one, so it could be a bust. Then that will probably leave just cars. There’re all that’s reasonably priced. There’s only a few makes I’ll buy. You can still get a nice one in the 30s. Especially a CPO. I’m cheap in other areas I got to like my ride. I’m not saying you can’t run the miles up. Or can’t enjoy a high miler. I haven’t done it yet.

I can tell walking up to a high miler if the car is worth a closer look or a total bust. If it looks that good at 12 then someone gave a hoot about its upkeep. If it looks like crap, it got lucky to get that far.

We have friends who own an OLD Toyota Forerunner with close to 400K on her. Thing looks and runs like new. I'd take it anywhere, anytime. Miles don't put me off. Lack of care and abuse do.

There’s been a few vehicles I’ve considered for long term. Some that pushed all the buttons. My wife’s Genesis. And I like sitting behind the wheel of the 2001-2005 GM trucks, especially the avalanche. They also had enough power to get the sensation of speed. There’s still some I’d like to experience. You could say it’s an addiction. There’s worse things. My wife says she’s glad it’s not the ladies. 😳She can handle the vehicle obsession.

It’s 4Runner grumpy. And yeah those are built awesomely. Toyota has basically ruined all their vehicles except that one, it will be ruined with turbos and a four cylinder next year.

The 4Runner and Tacoma are known high milers with Camry and the rest not far behind.

The new tacoma has now been ruined. It was bad enough when production went from California to Mexico for the whole line but now they dropped the v6 NA and it’s 4cly turbo only. Pass.

camry still running a na v6 option and traditional automatic. Safe for now.

my daily step and fetch car is a 21 Corolla. Running the tried and true 1.8 NA. Doesn’t even have direct injection at all. It does unfortunately have a cvt but I drive it like a mature adult and it has a very easy life so I feel it should be fine. Gets 45mpg semi regularly and it’s not a hybrid

My son in law has an older 4Runner. He just got a Camry TRD. It looks funny but runs good. His daughter has my 17 Camry with over 100K miles. They’re all happy with their rides.

Brother in law has a 1996 4Runner V6 bought new. Had the dealer add a turbo before he picked it up. I believe under 200k.

3rd vehicle.  Serviced per manual.

I don’t know how I missed the TRD supercharger installation in the Tundra. For awhile they were the fastest factory-dealer truck calibration with factory backing. I learned after the fact.

I just ordered/reserved a new 2023 4runner.  I wanted the proven reliable drivetrain for mild overlanding and trailhead access for the next 20 years.
