Hello everyone,

I have a 2001 2500HD Plow Truck that I just started for the first time in at least a few months, weather is cold here.  Oil pressure warning came on.  I know about the screen and the pickup tube, I am wondering if I can test the oil pressure with a manual gauge (or a scan tool, I have torque and blue driver) to rule out the sending unit.  Appreciate any input

Thanks!

That is not unusual after sitting for a long time. All my garage queens do that on the spring start. Eventually the oil galleys drain given enough time. Not to worry.

My 12 sits for long periods and has never done this. Clean engine inside due to more oil changes?

USAF maintenance policy (when we had Vehicle maintenance) Change the oil every 3 thousand miles/4 months what ever came first. That's in (more or less) commercial service. We got a LOT of years and miles out of the vehicles, the most in DOD. So in a case of a truck whos' use is seasonal every 5k miles or 6 months....just saying...

Definitely going to change the oil, I do it yearly as I only run this truck in the winter.  The second time I started it the oil pressure message went away and it is registering 40# at idle, so looking OK.  Thanks for the responses!

How many miles do you put on it in the winter?

Depending on what you plow probably not many but the truck is ALWAYS working. The 1s that don't leak a little oil tend to get very rusty, no fun changing oil pans etc. I may burn more than a tank of gas in a shopping center parking lot not going over 20 mph. BLOOD $
