And I still haven't smeared a tube of silicone on my holes....LOL!!!  I truthfully was actually looking at them today.  They look like holes.  It's going to be 56 here tomorrow, let's see if I can bundle up enough, probably looking like an Eskimo because I hate anything under 70' and have enough mental strength and fortitude to open up that plate on the tailgate?  I'm dying to see what my connectors look like.  Here's the worry for me though and I know I need to quit procrastinating on this topic.  I don't want my tailgate smashing down on my campers electric front jack and I park backwards right up near our Explorer because our camper takes up half of the driveway.  That would suck if it decided to smash into the back of our explorer and yes I'm that close to it.  Ok tomorrow.... @Pryme is still tapping his fingers on the desk, yeah right Dale, we will see....lol...I'll start a new post with pics just for you!!

It’s slathered. Get it right. Haha

Is there some sort of protective piece that can be put on the tailgate in case I forget, or it decides to open on its own, that will protect the tailgate?

Not that I’ve seen. I’d think adding something like soft rubber over the top of the hitch wouldn’t be that hard vs putting something on tailgate which would look good.
