2024 gmc 3500 dually questions

Recommended Posts

I'm coming from a Ford. Looking for the best hitch - comfort, capacity. Truck has the multi pro tailgate. Bumper hitch could be pulling a solid 20000 at times. I would like a 5-6 inch drop also.

I have the curt hitch for the fifth wheel that I used with Ford. Will that work with the gmc?

This is more what I'm looking for. I have to have as much capacity as possible. Thanks. I hear the multi pro tailgate can hit the hitch. Is yours clear with this hitch?

B&W is the only brand that offers a hitch that can clear the multi-pro. I have the B&W on my truck and works flawlessly and cleared the multi-pro tailgate on my previous GMC.

Thanks for the reply. The most important thing in looking for is capacity. Do you know what theweight limit is on the bw hitch you have? Would love to not worry about dinging the tailgate.

I use the one in link. They also make a very similar one rated to 20K on 2 5/16” ball.

note:

I’ve read that the B&W tow and stow ball mount for the Multipro gate has its issues.  When gate is down, the gate is very close to the ball mount.  So close, that a heavy person climbing on the lower gate will flex gate enough to hit mount.

Yeah, it's close, like .50" gap. It has to be more than 260#, cause that's what I weigh, and I don't crawl up or down on it now, knowing it won't hit.

Never had a problem with mine on my 2021 gmc 2500 with the B&W hitch receiver. I've had 400+lbs stepping on the tailgate with multiple people and no issues.

The weigh safe is 22k. I’m never going to tow that but nice to know it can ha. The gauge is cool too showing tongue weight. It works.

I don’t ever keep it in the receiver when I’m not towing. I have the whole thing in a case until I need to use it. Too expensive even with a lock and don’t feel like it rusting into the receiver.

The 2024 has the ability to easily disable the inner tailgate to avoid hitting the hitch. It’s described in the manual.

They can’t seem to figure out how to stop the whole thing from randomly popping open so I’m not sure I’d trust that feature haha

And I still haven't smeared a tube of silicone on my holes....LOL!!!  I truthfully was actually looking at them today.  They look like holes.  It's going to be 56 here tomorrow, let's see if I can bundle up enough, probably looking like an Eskimo because I hate anything under 70' and have enough mental strength and fortitude to open up that plate on the tailgate?  I'm dying to see what my connectors look like.  Here's the worry for me though and I know I need to quit procrastinating on this topic.  I don't want my tailgate smashing down on my campers electric front jack and I park backwards right up near our Explorer because our camper takes up half of the driveway.  That would suck if it decided to smash into the back of our explorer and yes I'm that close to it.  Ok tomorrow.... @Pryme is still tapping his fingers on the desk, yeah right Dale, we will see....lol...I'll start a new post with pics just for you!!
