I have a similar issue and would appreciate some guidance.

I purchased a new Trailboss in 2024, and with less than 9,000 miles, it went into limp mode in early November while my son was away at college. He has since graduated and moved to a different city, yet the truck remains at the dealership in his college town, awaiting repairs.

While I appreciate that he was provided with an Impala as a temporary vehicle, this situation has become increasingly frustrating. The dealership has advised us to contact GM directly, which I have done. I have a case number and have spoken with GM representatives, who are courteous on the phone but have yet to follow through on promised callbacks.

The dealership has informed me that they have three vehicles with the same issue sitting on their lot and are unable to obtain the necessary part. Meanwhile, my son is making payments on a $60,000 truck but is driving a $30,000 Impala. This is simply unacceptable. Not sure what my next step should be. Appreciate any advice.

But did it fix your problem? We have not been hearing from many people who have had their valve bodys replaced. Did it fix the original problem? Drive your truck for a few weeks and report back to the forum if your tranny shifts like it is supposed to.

I just picked it up yesterday, and had to pick up and run around three different trailers.  It seemed fine yesterday.  But you better believe I will be paying close attention for a while.  Mine happened over 30K miles, so it will take quite a bit of driving (during the busy season for my business, where I can not afford this downtime) before I start to actually feel comfortable about it again. I have not been able to get any confirmation or suggestion at this point as to whether or not the extension of a warranty that was apparently given to 2020-2022 model years is going to be extended to us as well.  The GM rep that I spoke with seemed to not answer that head on...it was one of those "i'm calling on a recorded line" situations and I imagine they have to tread carefully there, but I did ask about it.

I expressed the exact same frustration to the GM rep I spoke with. I told her that I purchased a $60,000 truck, brand new, and a year and a half later had to call a friend to come pick up a trailer (in his Ford).  The question he asked was obvious: "Sure, man, but what's up with your fancy new truck?"  When the answer was not, "I wrecked it" but instead, was "A transmission valve problem that has been happening with these trucks for three years" it hits differently.  Not only does it diminish their brand, but it will give me pause about what truck I will buy next. I had an '06 with 200,000 miles on it.  Never had a single engine or transmission issue.  I am very good about regular maintenance and I dont drive like an idiot, but I used it like a truck.  I had zero reservations buying a brand new one, and that feeling is shaken with this situation.

To their credit, the dealer has been great and communicative, but she was surprised when the part came in so quickly and it was kindof just a lucky situation.  It's a bad sign when so many of these are being done, that the company cant keep up with the replacement parts.

Add me to the list!  Four month old 2024 Sierra 1500 with the 3.0.  Left me stranded with barely forward gear and no reverse!  Had to have it towed.  Dealership put me in a CAR when I used a truck daily.  Oh and I have a family vacation coming up where I have to have MY truck because I had set it up to be able to carry things required for this vacation!

Dealership tells me the valve body is on backorder with no known ETA!  Finding this thread is infuriating that it's been going on this long and they still cannot keep up and have not fixed the problem!!!!!

I did so much research before I bought mine, but it was all related to the engine. LM2 made me nervous but was promising. LZ0 had me sold. Never would have imagined the an issue like this would go through three model years (20-22) and then still be going now

I have expressed this concern to GM.  Will see what they respond with, if anything.

Last week I had the dealership do the software update recall on my 2021 3.0 Duramax Silverado with 62k+ miles.  I told them that for the couple of weeks prior, it would downshift really hard from 2nd to 1st.  Also, going up a hill out of my neighborhood, the truck would act as if I was on and off the accelerator in 3rd and 4th.  They had me come in this past Monday and I fully expected they wouldn't be able to replicate the issues and I'd be stuck with a $199 diagnostic.  Wednesday they called saying it needs a new valve body.  I was told a week for the part to come in, and then they'd replace it.  Reading all of these posts, I have doubts about the week estimate is accurate.  I was also told no loaners available and that they couldn't get me a rental because "Hertz is out of vehicles".  There goes the weekend camping trip.  Only a week into dealing with it and I'm already thinking about other trucks.  Unfortunately, it seems like most vehicles these days suck in one way or another.

It kind of stinks that the situation exists to begin with, but a company has to truly care about their reputation and brand and what role their products play in the lives of their customers. Anybody who is running into this issue, I would just encourage you to contact GM customer service. I don't know that it is helping my situation individually or not, but I am trying to do it to make sure that the company recognizes those things that I just mentioned.  I do hope That it will get me to some sort of resolution that will help reinstill the peace of mind that I have in this truck, because my previous one had almost 200,000 mi on it and I never had any engine or transmission issues. I did not worry when I hit the road in that truck. But if we don't speak up  and make sure that they hear that message directly, I don't think they will get it

Add another one to the list. I bought a new 2024 Sierra 5.3 in May of 2024. It has been in the shop now for over 40 days with no end in sight.

The dealership was trying to put me in a Chevy Malibu at first. I declined it and waited for a loaner truck, which I now have, but I had to sign a waiver that I can't take it out of town. I do a lot of interstate driving so that creates an issue for me.

I have started a case through BBB auto line and spoken to GM twice. They were supposed to call me back last Thursday/Friday and never did. I called today and found out they transferred my case to someone else. She says she's going to call me back by Friday with a resolution.

I also spoke to a Lemon Law Attorney this morning and have a retainer to sign in my email. We'll see what GM says Friday, but if I don't hear from them or they don't provide an acceptable resolution, I'm signing it and moving forward with the lawsuit.

Quick update here. GM has agreed to a repurchase or replacement for mine. I received a call from the BBB rep explaining how they calculate the buyback offer which, if true, would be unacceptable for me. I told her

I wanted an actual offer in writing to review so now I'm waiting on that. I'm giving it another week or so before going the lawyer route.

I put new $1800 tires on my truck, a level kit, and tint, and I'm close to months now without it which has been huge pain in the a**.

Same, I researched the mess out of engine options!  Here's the kicker.  I got rid of a 2018 GMC Sierra at 100K miles because the lifters were going in the engine!  I like GMC trucks.  I knew I did not want a gas engine with cylinder deactivation.  I thought, I'm perfectly safe with the LZ0.  I didn't research the transmissions in these things that hard.  When I first was told it was the valve body, I asked about part availability.  They say it's in stock.  I get a call the next day!!!!  Ummmm, sir, the part is actually on backorder!

Hello All

New to this site, Just found out my 2022 trail boss has body valve issues that need to be changed, only 30k clics, never pulled anything with it. tranny acted up, would not change gears stayed in 2 second, I stopped, then no more reverse. They said they ordered the parts, hopefully it won't be like Michael 3 months.

Any updates on how long it took? Mine as been in for same reason since Dec 20th (now Feb 7th)

So I send GMC corporate a message and magically, my dealer says the valve body part came in today!  Oh and they also found me a loaner truck all of a sudden too!

I don't know if it all was coincidence or because I contacted GMC corporate and they contacted the dealer.  We'll see if I get my truck back by next week.

I brought my truck in 12/11. Told it would be 3 weeks to 3 months b/o. Spoke to the service manager, told me he will keep calling around to find one, also wrote GM and the NTSBA. Got useless emails from GM. Long story short the Chevy dealer called on New Year’s Eve and said the truck was all set! Scary part is GM still emailed me for a couple of weeks after that saying the part was still b/o until I finally told them I got it back. Tells me GM doesn’t seem to know what is going on. So far so good with truck, fingers crossed.

FWIW, mine has been fine since the VB replacement, though I've put less than 500 miles on it.

Perhaps GM is catching up on all the VB back orders.

I've read recently that NHTSA is investigating engine failures with the 6.2, which could result in a recall, either forced or voluntary, and my bet is they are investigating due to the number of people who've filed a complaint with them about 6.2 failures. So although this thread is focused on the 10 speed transmission VB, if enough owners take the time to open a complaint with NHTSA for the transmission problems the NHTSA will be obliged to open an investigation for that issue too.

As I suggested in a previous post open a case with GM Customer Care, with BBB Auto Line, and with NHTSA.

Does anyone know what is actually failing in these valve bodies?   They are pretty simple parts with channels and valves to direct all the fluid! The Ford version seems to have a different valve body in it and I can't seem to find the same or similar problems on the Ford version of this transmission!

I bought a new 2024 Sierra in May 2024.  5.3L 10 speed transmission.  Last Friday, no reverse and wouldn’t go above 2nd gear.  Towed to dealership.  Was told it needed a new valve body.  The service advisor said she ordered a new VB and a new transmission.  Which ever one comes in first, she will have installed.  Sad—- the truck only has 9000 miles.  Driving a loaner Malibu.  Life long GM buyer, but rethinking that now.
