Update:

I decided for the preventative maintenance based on the dealership recommendation and recommendation of users here. It did not go well. Put the truck in the shop three weeks ago. Dealership did the maintenance and buttoned everything up. Then it would not go into reverse. Was determined that the reverse solenoid had went out in the transmission valve body. Valve bodies are on back order. Reading other posts on here it will probably take three replacements and failures, then a new transmission to fix. Looking at three to four months. Thinking should have never broken into a sealed system.

I have three vehicles I did a drain and fill with my transmission service. One is a GM. All over 120K, one over 160K. Non needed or required to go in the transmission. Maybe drain and fill more often with these sensitive transmissions to eliminate filter service. Experience has taught me if the filter is restricted the transmission is toast.

It didn't rain because you wore a blue suit. These valve body failures happen regardless. Two separate issues.

They are not "sealed".  Not sure why this is such a misconception with modern automatic transmissions.  Sure, they don't have dipsticks anymore but they are far from sealed.  They have fill ports and fluid level check plugs, so all the servicing is just done from underneath the truck now rather than from both up top and underneath.

Like all things it seems things go bad when you work on them.  It had nothing to do with the fluid change. It just happens.  I had over 200k on my 2002 Silverado before I sold it and I changed the fluid in the transmission over to AMSOIL when I first got it brand new, then at 75k did just a filter and fluid change, then again at 150k.  No issues.  Now with these newer transmissions and I mean 10sp contraptions, I plan on changing the fluid every 50K miles.  Easy to remember and with my used oil analysis, it shows still good but I like to keep fresh fluid in it.  The dealer charged me $139 to exchange the fluid in the 10sp and I provided the fluid.

Fluids are the life of a driveline, cheap peace of mind.

I do a drain and fill at 30K miles. At the first 30K miles, I change the filter too so it's a pan drop. At 60K, simple drain and fill. At 90K another pan drop.

A majority of my miles are towing a 6500# trailer. I have a Heavy duty,
