TPMS Relearn/reprogram after swapping 18" steelies for 18" LT wheels

So I put this on reddit and the consensus was that the TPMS sensors from a 2022 3/4 ton are not compatible with a 2024. I wanted to post here to see if anyone had more experience and to affirm what some commenters said on reddit. 

 

I have a 2024 WT and I grabbed some wheels off a 2022 LT from marketplace (tons of people in California selling factory take offs with barely used tires for like $600). I tried using the cheap little TPMS relearn tool but had no luck. Do I need to just have a tire shop reprogram the 2022 sensors? Or do I need to have them yank the 2024 sensors out of my steelies and put them in the 2022 wheels?

This kind of question is usually easy to research yourself by going on a website for a gm parts dealer, entering the two truck models, and looking up the part to see if the part number is the same for the two trucks.  If they are different, once you have the part numbers, the site can tell you if the different part number is compatible with your truck.

22s are 433mhz. I can't find any info about the 2024s. The dually TPMS sensors are the only ones listed at Rockauto and in stock at parts.gm and the regular ones are out of stock at parts.gm

You NEED the sensors for a 2024. 

 

2020-2023 and the 2024+ are the same frequency, 433mHz.  What's different is 2024s have new auto learning sensors.  They will not work backwards on 2020-2023 and because of the change made, the 2020-2023 sensors won't work on a 2024+.

So the 2024 TPMS sensors don’t need a relearn tool after rotating tires? I’ve been using an Autel TS508 when swapping summer wheels/tires and winter wheels/tires for the last 6 or 7 years on my 1500’s before I got my 2024.

I have a 2022.5 Silverado 1500 so has the new style sensors.  As long as the truck is off for 15-20 minutes (so say when I swap from winters to summers and do an oil change, the truck is off for a good bit of time) the truck will then automatically learn the sensors and their position once you start up and drive away.  Same after a tire rotation.

 

I've not touched my relearn tool once yet for my truck so far for rotates or summer to winter/winter to summer swaps.

Good to know, thanks for the info. I plan on getting another set of wheels and tires for next winter and will have to get the 2024 tire pressure sensors and not any old 433MHz sensors. I verified that my key fob and tire pressure sensors were 433MHz when I brought the truck home. Previous 1500’s were 315MHz.

 

Truck came with BFG KO3’s and have been fine for our fairly mild winter, always subject to change.
