Navigating senior years.

I recently Googled "Old man pants" because my usual brands were becoming uncomfortable for the male parts.  It was particularly noticeable for getting comfortable while riding my trike.  Of course a Google search revealed that this is a common issue with senior men.  I have remained the same weight for several years but pants were fitting differently. There are all sorts of specialty options but these can be expensive.  All I wanted was a new pair of jeans with more space in the area of discomfort.  I decided to try a couple of pairs of my usual Costco pants in the next size up.  I always wear a belt so a loose fit at the waist isn't a big problem.  Yesterday I took my new upsized pants for a ride around town and my issue was solved.  My new, loose fitting jeans may not find the women staring at me with lustful thoughts but they also won't catch me trying to discretely "adjust" myself in  public.

I wear shorts whenever I can. My go to long pants are stretch jeans. Even when it’s cold I put on stretch jeans for my walk and back to shorts when I get home. I have pretty legs so I’m not repulsive.

If I lived where you do, I'd wear shorts everyday too!  Here, I'm often accused of having USD (Unseasonable Shorts Disorder)!  I start wearing them in early spring and stop in late fall.  However, I have to wear long pants whenever I ride my trike.

Today is Remembrance Day / Veterans day. Thank you to all who serve and have served.  My wife and I are both children of WWII vets and we have great reverence for this special day.

The attendance at our local cenotaph was outstanding!  The huge numbers made the event especially powerful.  All age groups were  well represented.  During the two minutes of silence, you could of heard a pin drop.  The tears in peoples' eyes echoed "message received".

I typically put up our outdoor Christmas lights  this time of year.  I was planning to start yesterday but my knees weren't in the mood!  Maybe today!  I know there are people we can hire but I enjoy this annual task!  I am hoping that a new knee (or two) in the New Year will keep me doing this for several more years, however, joint replacement doesn't fix everything.  Eighteen years ago, a fall from a ladder putting up Christmas decorations had me in the hospital for a week.  A similar fall at my current age would likely have much more permanent consequences. My wife and kids are well aware of this and worry is starting to overshadow this event!   Time to replace this part of our annual traditions!  Rather than look at this as one more thing, I can't do, I focus on looking for alternatives that don't involve a ladder!

There are also projectors you can put on your lawn that will brighten up the exterior of your house with colorful patterns or images.  Over the years, we've tried many options but I always return to the traditional multi-cored lights attached to the eves of our house.  On Monday, I did manage to get a string of lights along the front of the house without a problem.  Our house is a single story so no major heights.  The many trips up and down the ladder were not appreciated by the knees that are past their best before date!  A few years ago I upgraded my outdoor lights to LED which almost eliminates any need to go back up on a ladder until its time to take the lights down.

I’m glad it works for you. Once I put the electrical candles in the windows and the wreath on the front door. I set the timers and let it rock. It’s actually my wife’s preference. I like quick and low risk. I’ve tempted fate too many times to take chances anymore. Driving a high mileage vehicle is a far as I want to go these days.
