I swapped the Ranchos for Bilstein 5100s a few thousand miles ago.  I just got back from a 1400 mile trip to TN with my wife, and had a rattle while we were gone.  I couldn't see anything obvious at a quick glance, but a check underneath this morning shows that the driver side upper rear shock bolt has backed itself out, and the shock is resting on the spare tire.  

 

Does anyone have the size for the bolt handy?  I found a part number on gmpartsnow, but it is discontinued.  My Google-fu is failing me, and I just need to pick up a replacement bolt.

That what I ended up doing.  For posterity, the part number is 11589357.  They come in a 2 pack and dealer list is $14.03/ea.  The parts guy at my dealer charged me the shop price of $10.07/ea.

If you're in an urban location, industrial supply shops are a cheaper source for fasteners than the dealer. I've never dealt w/ Fastenal, so I can't say how their inventory is. I have heard that Grainger can be pricy. As a retired tool & die maker, I have a couple of shops in the nearby city that I can access.

Thanks for the info.  I had thought about trying to get over to Grainger, but the dealer dropped the price enough that buying from them was fine.  They will be in later today.

how do you like the 5100s?  I've been thinking about doing the same, also to reduce squat a little when trailering...

All shocks do is dampen. They don't do anything for squat. If you want to reduce squat, you use a WDH.

I thought the 5100s were able to add a little spring effort, like an inch or so, maybe I'm wrong.  Most boat trailers don't recommend WDH, and mine is about 1k tongue weight. 

 

So besides all that, do you like the ride?

 

edit: i guess the ride height adjustable are just for the front

Only in a strut arrangement.

 

With my 1/2T F-150, I used a WDH with a boat trailer that had 600# of tongue weight. I also had EOH brakes. Only certain types of WDH can be used with surge brakes. They are the types with the sliding type spring bars.

 

If I had a boat with 1000# of tongue weight, I would be using a WDH.
