TrueBlue Posted November 21, 2024 Author Posted November 21, 2024 Still waiting on my new thumb drive. But I plugged in a micro sd card in a reader today and noticed that even with the truck off (and the door had been opened), the blue light on the reader was still lit. I'm concerned about potential battery drain if I leave my new thumb drive plugged in all the time. Anyone had an issue with this happening, or any input toward my concern?
TrueBlue Posted November 22, 2024 Author Posted November 22, 2024 Got tired of waiting on the Samsung drive I ordered, and was delayed in shipping, so I picked up a PNY drive today at Staples. $20 for a 128gb mouse transceiver sized thumb drive. As it happens it was already formatted in FAT32. Copied all of my music onto it and plugged it into the truck. Works like a charm. I have about 3K tracks on it, divided into artist and then album directories so there aren't any more than three levels to get to each song. The metadata shows up on the infotainment screen and the music keeps up on it as well as the dash display as the songs cycle. The complete indexing only took a few minutes to finish. Success! 1
TrueBlue Posted December 5, 2024 Author Posted December 5, 2024 After using the truck a few times with this USB drive inserted I have to say that I like it a lot. Seamless. The song being played is displayed correctly on both the center cluster and the infotainment screen, unlike when I used the music on my phone following the recall update. The power is a bit anemic since there's no preamp to add to the input as there is on my phone, but with just a little extra volume twisted it sounds just fine to these old ears. I did try to plug the drive into one of the rear ports, but it was not seen as an input type so I'm limited to keeping it in the front port. Not a big deal since I keep the jump seat down and nobody rides in the center so there's little risk the drive will get sheared off my a knee or foot. All in all, it saves battery on my phone and integrates into the infotainment system nicely.

CtPirate Posted March 3, 2025 Posted March 3, 2025 Hey Guys, I found this while poking around https://www.gm-trucks.com/forums/topic/236415-what-type-usb-drive-audio-files-work/ I'm going to give it a try shortly.
