Hello,

i’m looking to buy a silverado/sierra within the year. Was most interested in the v8’s but i keep reading about the DFM issues on here. With this is mind, is the TurboMax currently the most reliable engine offered (least severe issues long term?).  I want the engine least likely to have severe issues.

I got a 2024 silverado crew 4x4 was super sceptical about  having the 2.7. Coming from my last 2 trucks having 5.3's. My 2006 was great over 100,000 miles and my 2015 was great also. 129,000 on it when I sold it with 0 issues. Only time will tell how this holds up. I generally keep my trucks about 9 years or so. Don't really hear to many problems with them.

28,000mi on mine, its given me zero issues.

At work, they are the least worked on engine.  On the V8s, its not that every single one built has problems, but so far from what I've seen, they outweigh the 2.7s that have come in for service.

The kicker with the L3B and its variations is that it’s SIMPLE.

I wouldn`t call any modern turbo, vvt, ohc, mds, computer controlled cooling and oil simple.

The valvetrain is definitely more simple and dependable than the GM V8 offerings

Now there is a ample mouthful of true dat! 😏

The public bar for reliable is now so low that if it starts on the dealers lot it has to be good. A snake can't wiggle under that bar.

Think in terms of what is possible and not in what's available. Economic voting still works. Nissan is finding that out as we speak and for the second time in their history.

Was talking to a contractor the other day. He`s got a 2017 GMC with L83 5.3. He states 190,000 miles. I asked, lifter problems? Only oil changes he says.

Another guy at work has a 2010 Tahoe with 175,000 miles on his 5.3. Runs like a swiss watch.

My brother has a 2007 Avalanche with Vortec 5.3. AFM. 132,000 miles. Same thing. Sooo...

That's why I'm a little nervous going to a 2.7 in my 2024. Had an 06 and a 2015 both with 5.3's. Both well over a 100,000 on both.  Bone stock noting but oil changes.  Although I think the newer 5.3's seem to have more problems then the older ones.
