I swore I wouldn't use anything but the BFG All Terrains on my trucks - except I don't like the slightly tighter tread pattern on the KO3 vs KO2. I'm leaning towards the HD Terrain.

Update: I put a set of the HD Terrain tires on my truck.

  1. VERY aggressive appearance.
  2. They are the factory size but they look way bigger than what was on it. I was considering a slight size increase but the cost was pretty high to do so, now I'm glad I didn't
  3. Noisier than the BFG KO2, and I suspect they are noisier than the KO3 too. In fact these are the noisiest tire I've had. However, it's not so loud to be an annoyance.
  4. Ride is the same.
  5. Handling is different, but I can't put my finger on it and the sensation is quickly dissipating.
  6. Wet, snow, sand, mud, ice, etc... don't know yet. Its been on pavement/concrete and gravel. It holds onto rocks more than the previous tire, a highway tread.
  7. MPG's are down, more than I expected. On the highway 21 was pretty easy, now it looks like it will be closer to 17-18.

I have less than 300 miles on them so these are very preliminary opinions.

4 mpg drop is huge penalty.

If the tires last 50,000 miles:

50,000/21 = 2,380 gallons

50,000/17 = 2941 gallons

2941 - 2380 = 561 gallons

Using $2.75 for gas price --that's an extra $1542 for using those tires.

I rarely see those tires go out the door at my work, not a lot of people buy them but the ones that do are usually people in the trades that want a really rugged tire. Always wondered how loud they are and how much of a MPG hit people might take.

That was my main reason, my 1 ton is easily 2000 lbs heavier than my half ton trucks that I ran the KO2's on.

At my house the land is very loose sand, the additional weight of the truck makes navigating even more difficult, the more aggressive tread pattern hopefully helps this.

Also, the driveway and road are gravel, so I hope the tread compound being tougher will keep them from getting chewed up as bad.

Previous tire was Goodyear Wrangler Workforce HT.
