GM charging me $108 to program my radio?

I changed out my cd/tape in my 2003 silverado to a 6 disc head unit, I brought it into chevy dealership to program the new radio. They said it was a bear and that it

took them a couple times to get it right. They are charging me $108 for this

(I think this is 1.5 hours of labor) seems a little hight doesn't it? I heard most get charged $50 for this same procedure... what have you guys been charged?

72 dollars per hour seems to be their shop rate, if it took 1.5 hours then that is the proper bill.

Doesn't 1.5 hours seem like a long time to program a radio?

ask to see the shop rate from the book.. If it says 1.5 hours.. you are going to pay for 1.5 hours unless you have a hookup. I used to do reprograms on pcm's and it was no easy task.. It took close to an hour to complete the flash, and of course if something happens midway thru the flash.. the pcm is shot, and the dealer has to eat 800 dollars for a new one

Well on the drop off sheet, I crossed out the authorization section and wrote that if the charge was over $50 (not infinite like they want you to sign) then call me to ok it.

Well never got a call, until I got a message that the truck was done and I owe $108. I absolutly hate dealers, I always feel I am getting ripped off...

I need to find a dealer that will actually fix the vibration in my truck (this stealer said its normal!!m if its normal they would not be selling trucks!!)

Your screwed.. hop over to chevytruck.com and look on the forum for GM-TECH.. its one of the members. He's a Service Manager at a dealer on the east coast somewhere.. dont remember where. Real nice guy and i bet he'd be able to help you out on where to go

I think he meant http://www.chevytalk.org . I'm a member of that site as well and there is a member named GM-Tech who is an excellent source of information.

why is a reprogram needed to switch out the radio? i had thought of looking for a new radio seeing that all my lights are burnt out and the finish is all coming off - i didnt realize that i needed to have it reprogramed??

In '03 they change the security feature on the radio instead of having to remember a code they programed the radio to the VIN. Now I see in your sig that you have a '00 and you should not have to have anything programed. Correct me if I'm wrong people.
