I went to get my oil changed at Valvoline yesterday and they wouldn't change my oil due to the L87 recall. So I went home and looked into the recall, as I had not been notified of it. Turns out my February of 2021-built truck does not fall inside the recall date range. Does anyone here know what makes my L87 different from the L87s built March 1st, 2021 and later?

Defective machining on the crankshaft and or debris wiping out crankshaft bearings on some 2021s. 22s, 23s and 24s.

It depends on where the crankshaft was sourced.  GM knows where every part that goes into the engine was sourced and the bad ones came from an outside supplier from Mexico and not a GM engine plant like Tonawada where they are making them again.  Seems bean counters were in charge.  Of course this is all info from the web.

I use valvoline quick lube in between trips to the dealership. I recommend them to my family members. My Grandaughter came by the other day. Last oil change she forgot to reset the oil change monitor. At 5K oil changes that’s before the monitor trips. So the light came on she went to valvoline they pointed to the sticker on the window. She was early they sent her on her way. No charge.

I dont blame them, if I was a shop I would make the customers sign a waiver so I wouldn't turn down work. A 150 dollar oil change is not worth the hassle of a potential customer trying to pin a 12k motor on your shop. That post with a guy showing a freaking 0 mile engine and the crank journals looking like it went through world war 3 was eye opening.
