31000 miles.  was not recalled.

Did change oil to 0 W40 after 1st change.  5 oil changes and NO indication of any trouble.  No noise, vibration, nothing.  Dropped off at dealer yesterday with copies of all my oil changes.  Waiting to see what happens.

Is this a bottom end issue, if so oil weight is not the reason or cause, i have been running 0-20 weight in my 6.2 since November of 2014 and I'm just about at 100,000 miles.

 

Gm just released a statement yesterday stating they are bringing certain machining back in house for their next gen v-8's. I have been screaming from the rooftops on this issue since easily 2021! These lower end issues all stems from using slave wage labor in Mexico. If you were building a 60-80,000 dollar truck, would you have a guy who makes around 3-5 bucks an hour create the crank shaft for it and finish the surfaces on it? I bet 100 out of 100 people would say hell f'ing no and rightfully so!

 

Gm tried to save penny's and in the end it is costing them millions, not to mention customers who will never look at a single GM product again after this experience!

Damn man, sorry to hear about the engine failure. Hopefully the replacement lasts longer. What kind of warranty will the replacement come with?

I'm sorry to hear about this.

 

I just bought my truck 2 months ago, 2021 Silverado 1500 RST with the 5.3L L84 V8 and the 8L90 8-speed transmission.

 

It had 35,875 miles on the clock when I bought it and I'm coming up on 37,700 miles now. I traded in my 2019 Colorado with the 3.6L V-6 which also had the smaller 8 Speed transmission.

 

Anyway, I have a buddy of mine who has been driving Chevy Tahoes for a while & he warned me about the 6.2L V-8's and said that there is at least one class-action lawsuit against Chevy/GM, because of all of the problems and blown up 6.2L engines that are coming back to GM, while they're still well within their warranty periods.

 

I know the 5.3L's have some of their own issues, as do the 8 speed 8L90 transmissions, but I feel pretty confident that I've addressed most of the common, known issues.

 

I would be curious to hear what the dealership tells you.

 

I've heard some pretty horrific stories, about how GM/Chevy has been handling these 6.2L engine failures.

 

EDIT: I just read your response that the dealer o.k.'d an engine replacement.

 

Pretty amazing that they have none of these engines in stock - that's a big FAIL for GM.

 

Honestly, if I were in your position - I would not want another 6.2L, but that's your decision.

The build sheet for my truck says that it was built in the United States, which I'm hoping is true.

 

I've looked at other trucks where their build sheets said they were built in Mexico and when I noticed it, I made sure to steer clear of those trucks.

I doubt the machines care whether Bob, Jesus or Mickey Mouse pushed the button.

Where the truck was built doesn't matter, all the crank shafts were machined and created by a Mexican based company. The factory just takes the part off the shelf and installs it, the problem lies with the supplier and GM using cheap labor. As i said this is why the next gen v-8's, these parts are coming back to being made here in house, so they can make sure the quality is there. Still that does no one any good with a 2020-current truck using these botched parts.

 

Only decent engine option right now is the 5.3 imo, no way in hell would i ever buy a truck with a 2.nothing 20+lb boosted 4 cylinder and the diesel has it's own share of major issue right now, these new v-8's literally cant come quick enough imo....

Companies think saving a few dollars to manufacture a part is worthwhile, the haven't learned yet.

Hopefully it sounds like they have, if they move this production back in house for the new v-8's. Still though to allow this to go on for over a half decade is shameful imo.

The automotive industry has been doing this for decades. Not going to change.
