I have 2002 Silverado and it does not have compass in the mirror option on it. I had it in 97 Silverado and it was great!!! Can add one (GM type) to my truck with out to many problems. I was wondering about the wiring? Has anybody ever done this before? Thanks for all the replys about the remotes!!!

I got mine from a guy on ebay. I didn't win the auction but he worked with me and got the one I wanted and went out of his way to get all the information including wiring diagrams from the GM service manual and the connector. I bought the one with only compass and autodim in it so all I had to do is plug it in with no additional wiring. I paid $55 for it. Let me know if you want his email address. (I am not going to just post email addresses out in the open.)

It'll plug right in if you have the overhead console. I think you will have to add underhood temp sensor.

I put one in my 99. It was a lot more difficult because my truck wasn't prewired - my truck was base model, no overhead console. I had to run 2 wires underhood for the sensor because 99 wasn't prewired. I also had to build a harness to go up to the mirror through the A-pillar. It was pretty easy, the electrical center itself was prewired so I just bought some Metripak terminals from O'Reillys, some wiring, and made a harness that just snapped into one of the connectors in the electrical center.

My truck is a WT (most stripped down you can get) but it had wires from the airbag sensor and it used the same ones. Mine is a 2004 though and I don't know when they changed it.

The mirrors don't have the airbag light until 2003. 99-02 if the truck is an LS it has the connector for the mirror already, just take down the overhead console and it is tucked up in there. If it is a base model you will need to run wires up to the mirro, not hard at all. I think you will have to add the temp probe for any model not originally equipped with the mirror.

Hi,

I have a related question. I have a '99 Silverado that has an autodim mirror with compass; however when I start the truck I notice that the display within the mirror also has the characters needed to show temperature - the degree symbol, F and C, etc.

I was going to buy a new mirror to get a temp reading, but does anyone know if I can just add a temp sensor and use my existing mirror?

Thanks,

Wayne

What would it take to install one, with everything, in an older car like a '77 El-Camino? I wonder what a junk yard would charge for the setup.

Dave, could you PM me that E-mail address?

Thanks

If you have a switched 12v source and a ground it is easy!!!!! There is one connection made to the power then you ground it. I love the cipa I put in my 94
