Rusty Drive Shaft

Recommended Posts

The drive shaft on my '03 is bright orange with rust. Is this OK? Can I/Should I paint it or just leave it alone? I'm not quite sure what the rust will do, over time, to the structural integrity of the shaft. Any suggestions?

your driveshaft is rusty? HMMM Mine is an 00 and it is still silver (aluminum driveshaft).

I have seen people online with painted driveshafts so you can do it. I would wonder if it throws it out of balance though

My front one is rusty but the back one is still silver. I think the front one is steel and back aluminum.

Mine is steel. I wonder if a shot of WD40 would eat the rust off? You say you use 90W oil snoman? I'll give that a try. I don't really want to paint it. That sounds like a pain. Thanks guys! I'll try to get a before and after picture if I can figure out how to get my new-fangled digi-camera to work.

while i had mine off rebuilding the engine i sanded it down and it threw a coat of paint to it. you'd have to get pretty heavy on the paint to throw the balance off on it :troll:. i just painted it with some high temp cast aluminum paint i had. but mine wasn't rusty, it was just dirty as heck
