4WD Error?

Hey..

Ok so I had to go thru the local auto car wash the other day.. ( i know sorry -it was brushless!)

I was in 2wd, the whole morning, then upon entering the car wash (automated) i placed the transmission in Neutral and proceeded into the suds o wash.

When i got to the end, I went back into "D"rive. I pulled over to adjust mirrors etc, and i noticed that on the Selector Push Switches, the 2wd light was off, and the N light was flashing- red. However I was still in drive, and 2wd was on.. i drove around the car wash parking lot. I drove home noting that the red flashing N was still goin on. It took two 'turns off/on' for it to reset and be back to normal.

What the heck was that all about? Could it be that i was in neutral thru the wash? Was it an error?

Im going in next week for PM so i will let them know. Just wondering if anyone can shed some light on the mystery.

thank u !

Maybe you accidentially bumped it. It doesn't sound like a bad selector switch that everyone has a problem with. Usually that is accompanied with the service 4 wheel drive light in the D.I.C.

Could also be like Sno said, wet connection.

I had the same problem on my 99 jimmy(but not at a car wash) At first it would work ok but the red light would be on. After a while i found it wouldn't shift quickly into 4wd from 2wd or back again. It got worse as time went on until i couldn't get it to shift at all. Turns out it was the switch. They work on vacuum and there was a leak in the switch. At first the leak wasn't bad but got worse over time. The dealer replaced it (wasn't expensive) and said they had some bad ones in those years. I'm just glad it didn't quit on me on my drive to work(80miles one way)So you might try and see if the switch works by shifting back and forth out of 4wd. Better to find out now than when you really need to depend on it.
