Anyone running Goodyear Forteras?

I've been kicking around the idea of getting some Silverado SS takeoff wheels and tires, or some aftermarket 20" wheels, but I just don't want to worry about having a problem with the spare not having the same OD or reprogramming the speedo. So...I'll be sticking to the stock size of 255/70-16. The General tires that came with the truck were pretty good, but I've always been a Goodyear person. It looks like the "Fortera" model is what Goodyear is calling their best tire for what I want. Just wondering if anyone is rolling on a set and what they thnk of them.

you could still get a bigger wheel and keep the Overall diameter the same within atround .3 percent, ya know. Just need a shoter tire.

I was looking at the Fortera's, as I'm a die hard Goodyear person.

I move up to 17" Centerline wheels. I was all set to get the Goodyears from Discount tire, but they were not even able to order them because they couldn't find the part number (too new then). Discount pointed me to the Falken Ziex S/TZ01 in 285/60-17. I hesitated and said I'll think about it. Did a bit of research on Falken and gained confidence because they cross engineer and manufacture with Goodyear.

I bought the Falken's, and I'm still happy with them.

For the 16" they have the equivilent to the Fortera, Ziex S/TZ04

BTW I have no clearance problems going from the stock 255/70-16 to 285/60-17 on 17X8 4.5" BS wheels. 5" BS would still clear fine

I don't get it. Nobody has these tires! I know Goodyear has had them on the market for probably a year now, but I've yet to see a set on any vehicle on the street so far.

I'm going to keep the stock sizing because I'm thinking I'm going to trade it in for a 2005 uhhhhh TBD. Waiting to see if Ford makes an SVT Lightning version of the new F-150. Otherwise, it'll probably be a Sierra Denali.

Well, I finally got 'em. And since I think I only saw one other person on here say they have them, I suppose I will add my two cents to the database.

I got a little nervous about buying them since although the majority of the reviews on Tire Rack's site are positve, the ones that are bad are almost all form pickup truck owners. I read lots of complaints about wear not living up to expectations, noise, and crappy snow traction.

I'll never be in the snow, so that's not a problem for me. I got almost 60k miles out of the OE General tires it came with. I'll probably trade the truck before I see 100k, miles, so wear isn't that big a concern to me. As far as noise...they seem pretty decent. Over nice smooth fresh blacktop, all I hear is wind noise. The tires are in total stealth mode. Concrete does make them sing, but not as much as the Generals did, and I even considered their noise level acceptable. Over most other surfaces, I do hear some "ssssshhhhhhh" from them between 50-75mph. That seems like it was a little louder than the Generals. Traction seems about the same as the Generals. I'm not out trying to rail the truck about the twisties or anything though...I've got other vehicles to do that with. But the best part is the ride. I had the Generals inflated to 30psi at all 4 corners. I'm running the Goodyears at 35psi (to try and avoid outside wear on the left front), and they still soak up a helluva lot more of the sharp little bumps. I almost feel like I'm driving an Escalade now. So all in all, I'd say they're worth the $120 a tire. Whether they're better then the Michellin Cross Terrian, which is probably its closest equal in another brand...I don't know. I've never heard them on our trucks, but all the SUVs I drive at work with those Michellins are pretty loud.

Actually Im probably going to order Fortera's Monday. I just got some 20" Centerline Stingray III rims myself, and was leaning toward the Fortera.

The local tire shop that the Chevy dealers deal with thats capable of doing the tire pressure sensors was puching me toward Goodyear Eagle LS, Goodyear Eagle 2', Cooper Discoverer H/T Plus', and Cooper Xeon in the 275/55-2- or 285/50-20 sizes I want (less that 1% speedo error compared to old setup).

I hear Coopers are good, but the ONLY comparison between any of them Cooper finish 16th and Fortera's finish 1st (Consumer Reports). I take everything with a grain of salt, but thats the ONLY place on the internet I see any unbiased info on Cooper's outside of Cooper's website.

That drags me back to the Eagle LS, in stock for $150 a tire, and the Fortera's, $190 a piece and need to be ordered.

According to Goodyears' website, the Fortera's are their #1 tire in wet, dry, and low noise. They get 8 out of 10 for snow handling, and for ride comfort. Basically, their #1 tire for SUV's.

I just dont have the "warm fuzzy" for Coopers, and I can wait a few weeks for the Forteras, so I will probably be getting them.

Had Eagle LS's on a Cadillac. Never again! Slipped, slid, and vibrated all over the place. Put Michelin Hydroedges in their place and it's like a whole new ride! Had Eagle GT-IIs on another Cadillac. Not bad, but not great. They did wear well, after almost 40K they still had loads of tread left. A good buy for the money.

My .02, I will never own Goodyear's at lest I hope not, but anyway they are the worst tire on the market for wet driving, when they get to about half life you will slide ALL over the road, Zero wet traction and a bill from the Bar dich recovery service.

Goodyear has earned my loyalty because of it's long standing relationship with the Corvette. And the Eagle F1 Supercar tires on mine are easily some of the stickiest tires I've ever carved a twisty mountain road with. For my truck, I was a little hesitant to spend the $120 a tire when I could have just replaced the stock Generals for 40 bucks a hoop less...since, I could give a d**n about handling on a truck. But the cushy ride made it so much worth it. Had I known how nice the ride was going to be beforehand, I would have spent twice as much per tire.

Good, bad, or indifferent, I ordered the Forteras. Ill have them on (with pics) Friday.

Ill let you know how they do. If nothing else with the impending Whipple I can spin them off in 20k or so. :flag:

300 miles on the Forteras. SMOOTH as silk. Compared to the Goodyear Wrangler AT/S tires that were on it they are incredible. No more sterring wheel vibration, and in the drizzle lasat night I tried a panic stop to see what they would do and they worked awesome.

18 MPG today on the road trip, with the lack of the humming and vibration from the old tires at this point Im very hapy with them.

But, Ill see you in 40k and see how they are... :(

My $0.02 on the Cooper Discoverer H/T... Run away!!!!! I just took a set off. I've always liked Cooper car tires but these things sucked in the rain to the point of being unsafe. No wet traction at all. In the rain I had to take off in 2nd gear on an auto tranny to avoid the sit and spin. They were on the truck when I bought it and were wore down about 2/3's. The dry traction was good and the ride was very smooth. These were P245/75/16's and not the "Plus" version you mentioned, but they were horrible. :D

Those rims do look sharp. I sometimes regret not doing a new wheel/tire combo deal. Did the ride quality get worse when you switched to 20's? That was one thing that kept me from blingin' up.
