Looking for advice on new tires.

I'm looking for new tires for my '94 K1500 4x4 pickup. The existiing tires are 245/75 - 16. I will be using it mostly for chores around the acreage, but expect to be driving it to work occasionally in the winter on a snow covered highway. I want a tire with good snow traction.

The tire rack indicates the best choice is Bridgestone Dueler A/T Revo. BFG All-terrain T/A is #4, but has better snow traction than #2 Sumitomo or #3 Michelin. The full results are here:

Can't help you with the snow traction issue as I'm the the Dallas, Tx area... But, I did put the 265 x 75 x 16 Revo's on my '02 Z71 Ext Cab a few months back. I can tell you that I love the difference in the ride from the factory 245 Firestones. The wet traction is amazing and they did pretty good in the mud and clay out in the in-laws ranch pastures. They might not be as agressive as some others but they seemed to do OK for me and they are very quite.

I'd vote for the Revos. Hopefully someone can chime in about the Revo's snow capabilites for ya.

I've got 31" BFG AT's on my 91. The only time I had it on snow it got real good traction. In fact I pushed a minivan that couldn't get traction on ice with it no problem. I highly recommend them.

Same truck, same situation. I have Dunlop LT245's on there when I bought the truck 4 yrs ago, and they have been fine, not great, just fine. I am looking at LT265s. They should fit without any adjustments. Someone mentioned Cooper Discoverer series? I might give them a try.....but haven't made my final choice

I put the Dueler Revo A/T 265 75R 16 on my 99 Silverado in May, and I love them. Quiet, great traction on wet roads, and a cool tread design. I can't wait to see how they are in the snow here in Michigan this winter. I would definitely recommend them!!!

Forget about A/T tires if your using it mostly as a farm/ranch truck. Your probably not intrested in ride or noise ,you want a tire that will pull when you need it to and not brak the bank in doing so. I reccomenb Buckshot mudders. They would work great around the acreage and they can be had for a good price. Forget about the sissy tires.

Shotgun: Interesting comment, but I can't find any info on Buckshot mudders - I don't think they are available locally. While most of the time I'll be using the truck on the acreage, I will be driving it to work on the worst winter days. So I need tires that will perform well on snowy / icy roads at highway speeds.

I'm leaning toward the Revo's right now, they are quite pricey but the BFG T/A's and Michelins actually cost a bit more. I haven't priced any others yet.

Again...not much help with the snow thing, but I just bought a set of BF Goodrich Land Terrains. They make a heavier load, which you'd probably be more interested in.

I've just ordered my 2nd set. The first went on my Jeep, best tire ever in the snow, great in the mud! They've been on for a year now and have performed PERFECT!! The 2nd set is going on my '04 Canyon to replace the weak factory Generals.

I love my BFG AT's, great in the snow and fairly quiet on dry pavement considering the somewhat agressive tread. My dad's been using them on his trucks for years and never had any complaints.

The tires are used, but retreaded. The price was right, and I talked with others who had went this route. The quality of these are excellent! They really put up with alot of abuse. The snow and ice traction is amazing! Like I said, I've just ordered my 2nd set, it won't be my last either. Best tire for the money!

I have always sworn by the BFG TAs but as they wear the traction drops off in all situations, they just seem to get hard, but they also easily go for 50k plus miles. I just bought my first set of REVOs and love them so far, they are absolutely quieter that the BFGs and maybe handle a little better on the street. I only have them for about 3000 miles and haven't hit any snow yet. I have a plow so I will be able to judge the snow performance shortly. I can't think you will be unhappy with either of these as they both have deep wide open tread patterns. The REVOs are supposed to stay soft as they wear down, we shall see Good Luck to ya.

I'm a fan of the Revo's. Have them on my HD. Great wet traction and very quiet. But like previous post said, if you are farming you won't care about noise.

Four Wheeler magazine did a comparison test of mudder tires a while back (may have been 4Wheeler mag). Anyway, they compared the major brand mudders and found the BFG Mud Terrains to be the best all around. I'd give them a look.
