Switch replacement

I hope I'm not insulting anyone's intelligence but after posting that I recently ordered a new dash switch for my AutoTrac system I got a few emails asking how it went. I decided to throw up a few pictures to show how easy this really is.

1.) I found it easiest to put the steering wheel down and pull the shifter into "1". The dash trim pops right off with a slight tug.

2.) With the dash trim off you now have access to the switch (put the truck back in "Park" and take the key out to cut power to the switch). There are 3 tabs circled in red that hold the switch in. Pry each one of these out slightly with a small, flat-head screwdriver and the switch will pull right out.

3.) There are two plugs on the back of the switch. Pry out on the locking tab slightly on each socket and the plugs will come off (mine were pretty tight).

4.) Plug the new switch in, slide it back into its housing and put the dash trim back on and you're done!

Great documentation! :smash:

You do realized that the old switch probably works fine now!

On a more serious note, if you are handy with a soldering pencil, and open up the old switch and resolder the connectors for the plugs (where they go into the circuit board), that the old switch will probably outlast the replacement switch. That is always a possibility.

I'd keep the old switch in a drawer somewhere.

Good job on the photos...

I didn't throw the old switch out. It works except for the annoying light coming on. I'll keep it for a rainy day...
