Saw an 06' 1/2ton today

I saw a new 1/2 ton Ext cab today. Walked by it, thought it was an HD by the grille, then saw the 17" wheels. It was an 06'! They have the same grille and hood as the HD. They have also changed the interior ordering, so BEWARE!! This truck was an LT2. Said LT on the Cab corner, looked in, cloth seats. Apparently, now the

LS is the BASE model and there are 3 levels of LT or something. Don't order a new truck and think the LS is what you want!! Remember in 99' when they did this?

The "silverado" interior went from being the best to being the worst. Seems like it's always something!!

Considering 2006 is the last year for this body style, I would assume GM changed this to reduce their parts inventories. Seems logical to me.

I read the '07 restructure is coming in fases. Tahoe and Suburban were in the first quarter and the trucks were after that. Does this mean new body styles will come out mid-year?

It is possible this could happen, but I would be suprised. GM needs the new truck first and the Tahoe and Suburban to follow. The last 3 generations were introduced this way.

yep. I have a pic of the tahoe and escalade but it is a big no no to share on the boards. don't want to get anyone in trouble by GM. my email might be cdn111 and may be with hotmail though . they are on my comp at home so it'll be after 6 before i can do anything

Here is a link to the GMT 900 discussion. There is a TON of info on these new trucks. I would suggest reading all 50 pages. One big thing that is coming out is that the HD's will be getting a SOLID FRONT AXLE!!!!!

I apologize ahead of time for the long post.

I have read enough of these GMT900 rumors and cannot resist chiming in any longer. That GMI thread is way too long and too full of Internet BS and pipe dreams to chisel through it entirely. Everybody had their opinion and here is mine.

I would very seriously doubt the SFA presence in a 2500 or even a 3500 4x4 as GM focuses on the “guys that should be driving cars crowd” or just the brand loyal crowd since the GMT 400’s were introduced 18 years ago in 1987 as a 1988 MY truck. GM and their beloved so called industry expert consultant, JD Power and Associates, think everybody should be driving the top of the line cream of the crap, IFS, electronic automatic actuated four wheel/all wheel drive, leather cladded, power everything girly trucks. Ever try to find a GM truck with bear bone work essentials? No wonder GM has the least amount of the profitable loyal Fleet/ work truck market share. Maybe GM’s Commercial Vehicle Specialty dealer network is to blame? Not every body wants IFS, push button 4x4, leather, carpet, Onstar, etc equipped pickup truck.

If GM wasn’t so self inflicted broke by making decades of poor automotive business decisions thanks to previous non-automotive savvy leaders like Perkins, Zarella, and Wagoneer, GM probably would be more inclined to add IRS in addition to IFS across the board on the GMT900’s right off the bat during the new product launch if they could actually afford it. (Not that I would like to see IRS) I work in this industry and have a great deal of interaction with AAM and Dana folks. If GM were to use a SFA, I probably would have already been able to drag it out of one of the reps over a beer or 12 by now. From what I have heard the chances of seeing IRS are (unfortunately) much greater on trucks and SUV’s from the 6500 to 10,000 GVWR range than ever seeing an SFA in anything less than a 4500 medium duty truck. I hope that I am wrong.

Speaking of GM and their poor business decisions, I feel GM is poorly allocating their meeker resources by rushing SUV’s and light trucks to market when both gas and diesel fuel is at an almost all time high. Another stupid GM business decision in my opinion. That is hard to say considering that I am a GM diehard. I feel they should be focusing on bringing fuel-efficient DESIRABLE cars, sports cars, and sport wagons to market and realize the SUV and truck craze is cooling down…..way down as fuel costs keep creeping up. Trucks and SUV’s should be their last priority but GM is too blinded by their own arrogant previous success in different times, world economies, and fossil fuel costs with trucks and SUV’s. Guys, the fuel costs are not going to get any cheaper anytime this decade. When the fuel costs start taking a noticeable dent in your check book, lets see how truck and SUV loyal you really are. The reason GM doesn’t focus on creating anything less than products in the light truck market is because they have no previous successful market share in those segments in the past 30 years so they are taking the path of least resistance until certain death. GM has put themselves in a position that only allows room to punt. Hmmm.....Toyota/GM (ie: DaimlerChrylser)

In other good news, when the up and coming 2007 Federal Diesel Emissions standards start and there will be at least an additional $2800 premium (according to SAE insiders) to the already costly premium for diesel powered trucks when they hit the streets as well the $1.00 + a gallon fuel cost spread between gas and diesel. I would bet there will be a ton of personal use Durasmack, Cummins and Powersmoke equipped light trucks for sale on every street corner and the light truck market will go further into the tanker. Sometime in 2007, all pre 07’ MY trucks will need costly fuel supplements at every fill up in and effort to preserve the injection pump once the ultra low sulfur fuel comes to a filling station near you.

Mark my words, now is not the time for GM to focus on trucks, even though we are all reading this because we love trucks……….. or time to rush out a buy GM stock…..maybe, Toyota stock since they will be the only automotive manufacturer with the resources to purchase them out of bankruptcy court.

Oh, yeah, I do hope the SFA rumor is true but I doubt it based on my everyday industry experience. Right now, I think SFA is our least worry with GM.

Nice post.

I happened to notice that in your signature, you don't have a vehicle that gets over 12mpg.

The way you talk about GM...I believe every word of it. GM is a business and that is what happens. Take what you can get while you can get it.

The OEMs order their parts on a "just in time" basis. There isn't a warehouse w/ 250,000 hoods & grilles stored ready to be used up.

This isn't the 1st time I've seen this statement before.
