Tailgate Straps

Recommended Posts

I was looking for VRstraps.com and could not find it. I did find dependable-straps.com. I would like to replace my tailgate cables (which are rusting already after being replaced about a year ago) with the stainless steel straps. Has anyone ordered from dependable-straps.com? How was your experience with them? Are the straps well made? (no sharp edges, etc.) Do they fit properly? Do they rattle?

Any and all input is appreciated.

Thank You,

Darn it, I guess you're right; vrstraps.com is off the net.

I bought a pair of V-Rs about two years ago. Expensive? Yup. Worth the money? Very YUP. The finish and quality is unexcelled; the straps are finished like jewelry (I should know, I'm a retired goldsmith).

Hopefully, someone will come up with an answer on Dependable-Straps. In looking at the photos, the finish is not as fine as V-R. In the end, however, I guess it is the strength that counts.

My V-Rs do not rattle.

We hunt and I've found that the V-Rs work very well to anchor a bucks legs to the tailgate, when motoring back to the barn.

I am personally saddened by V-Rs disappearance. By the way, the VR stands for Victory Red, the owner owns a DuraMax in that color and was active on the DieselPlace and ChevyAvalancheFanClub forums. Just thought that that small bit of info might prove interesting to some.

Good luck finding the straps of your dreams. The cable that is OEM is a piece of crap and the replacements are marked "Made In China," just to boost your confidence level.:seeya:

I've got the VR straps and like them as well. Definately worth the piece of mind to know they won't break. Especially with my 800lb bike loaded in the back.

I'm waiting to hear back from eshoremd on the Dependable-Straps.

My left cable is breaking (not fully snapped yet but it's trying) and I don't want to go to the dealer simply because with my tonneau cover and the SS tailgate cap my tailgate won't shut easily ... there's a stupid little process I have to go through. And I don't want the service guys breaking something since things don't behave normally on my truck. Yes I need to fix both the straps and the fit b/t the cover and tailgate but I don't haul a lot right now and I'm the only one that drives it.

I got the stainless cables on my truck, but the edges of the crimped ends seem to be rubbing the paint of the bed when the tailgate is closed.

eshoremd,

Does it look like these straps will rub too. If not, I will probably pick up a set before I am down to bare metal.

Yeah, from the pictures on the site, they look similar to what GM used to use on the trucks. I am wondering if the bars or hinge look like they will be rubbing like the junk cables are.

Thanks,

Steve

ok they arent the prettiest things in the world but they go on easy and feel really strong. dont forsee these things breaking.

Cool - thanks man, I'm going to have to order myself a pair.

Figure some time with some fine grit sandpaper and some wet sanding should shine them up. Too bad VRStraps is gone but if these things work I think they're still a better alternative than the SS cables GM is offering.

Thanks for all the replies to my original post. I received my straps from dependable-straps.com today. They work well and look real strong. Will definitely give me a lot more confidence when loading and unloading my snowmobile this winter!
