Best Diesel engine?

Recommended Posts

Hi all, I've been a Silverado fan for years and I am getting ready to get my biggest truck yet; a 4x4, ext or crew cab 3500 dually. The big issue for me is that I want a diesel engine this time.

I've heard alot of talk that the diesel engine in the Fords are the best on the market but I've been hearing that for a couple of years now, has another manufactuer taken the crown? It seems like the most common 3500 diesel dually, where I live, is the Dodge. I am personally hoping that i learn that GM trucks have the best diesel engines.

I know this may not be the best place for my question but I've read posts from those that gave GM trucks thumbs up and down on this site and trust that you'll would point me in the right direction also if anyone knows of any online articles on the topic please link me.

I think the general consensus around the world that the Ford is the worse of the 3 diesels.

Question is, what will you be doing with your truck.

Tow for Haul, Chevrolet.

Just took a trip through our local mountains last weekend and I was dissappointed in the Ford Diesel laggin' a lane down. That was before I had to drop down to 35 mph and gain speed up hill. (I got stuck behind a gas tanker.) Crazy ...

But, You won't have a problem finding Chevy Diesels anywhere. If your not sure, take a test ride between Chevrolet and Dodge Cummings.

Here's the way I look at it.

If you're driving any truck, and it's hurting on hills from your load...You didn't buy enough truck to begin with, regardless of brand, motor, transmission, or OnStar capabilities.

Add to that the fact that most brands are fairly close in towing/load capacities for the same sized truck, and you'll reach the same conclusion that I do.

You buy the one with the most comfortable seats.

While people can argue literally for generations about who makes a better truck without EVER deciding a clear winner...Nobody can argue with the logic of buying what you like and feel comfortable with.

I will differ in opinion only because I do a lot of hauling myself. I am still seeing Chevy Diesels outpull Fords with regards to loads and truck size cross country.

Dodge... It has to be a Cummings in order to make a statement.

As far as longivity of diesel engines, I can't comment. I'm a gasser ahead of its time. Longevity should be seriously considered.

That doesn't really change what I said. If your truck is hurting, hunting, and sucking wind...You didn't buy enough truck, regardless of brand.

Also do you pull over the guys and ask them how much they are hauling? Or if they are modded. Because I have seen a Honda CRV tow more than I have ever tried in my truck........but I don't really think it hauls better than mine.
