fluid change question

My truck is going in tomorrow to check and ? replace the slip yoke with the nickel plated one. It's an 04 silverado 4x4 with the 5.3l engine. It has 33k on the odometer. Should I have them replace the tranny, transfer case, and diff fluids while it's there? Is this too early? How much do you think it would cost? The slip yoke should be under warranty, but the fluid changes will not. Thanks in advance.

YES, DOING FLUID CHANGES EARILY IS GOOD AND IF THAY DRAIN OUT THE FLUIDS AND SEE METAL PIECES, THEN THEY CAN GET THOSE PARTS FIXED SO YOU WONT HAVE ANY OUT OF POCKET EXPEINCES, BUT TO DUE THE FRONT AND REAR DIFF THE FLUID IS ABOUT $25-

$30 A PINT AND TO DUE BOTH IT TAKES ABOUT 3-4 PINTS AND THEN WHAT EVER THIER LABOR IS, THE TRANS FLUSH IS ABOUT $100-$175 AND TRANFER CASE FLUID IS ABOUT 5-10 A QUART AND TAKES 3 AND THEN PLUS LABOR, SO IT IS PRICEY

I'd have them do your tranny. The others are not difficult, and that's coming from someone who does not consider himself particularly mechanically inclined. I'm sure they're going to hit you pretty hard on labor for those too. It's up to you of course though. Depending on what your comfort level is and if you feel like servicing your truck yourself.

I agree, just have them do the tranny. The rest isn't hard to do at all. I find it hard to pay the prices that they want for their gear oil. If you have the auto transfer case then that requires the Auto TracII fluid and is only available from the dealer. There are no current replacement aftermarket brands available yet that I'm aware of.

Thanks for the replies. The truck no longer clunks after they put in the nickel plated slip yoke. It's now a dream to drive, i never realized how much that clunk bugged me until now.

Glad to hear that it solved the problem, its on my list of things to have done to my truck, eventually. Still recovering after a pricy $1600 repair bill when the rear posi blew up in my truck.

 

1. Water Pump Leak/new radiator hoses

2. Rear output shaft seal replacement (leaking)

3. New Front Bumper (Accident, oopsie)

4. New Slip Yoke to resolve the clunking when taking off from a stop

5. Passenger side rear quarter panel repair (hit and run/scrape and run victim)

6. New Plastic trim piece for bottom floor covering on entrance for passenger side (cheap cheap cheap GM plastic!!!)

7. Fuel pump/fuel gage repair (fuel sending unit, wondering fuel guage)

 

Just waiting for the alternator to go out, already went through the AC/Delco battery exploding

Is that for new models or any model with an automatic transfer case? Specifically I have an 00 model.
