seat lift kit

I saw a seat lift kit on eBay that will raise one front seat about 1.5 inches on a newer (02-06?) Silverado pickup. Has anybody installed one of these? The kit consists of brackets and longer bolts. The lift brackets fit under the existing seat rails. This looks like an interesting mod.

 

I have a few concerns about installing such a kit. The seat belts are integrated into the seats. In the event of a collision, if these lift brackets fail, both driver and passenger can get seriously injured. Also, GM cannot be held responsible because this is an aftermarket kit.

 

I noticed that GM used a peculiar fastener to bolt the seat rails to the floor. These fasteners require some kind of a special star socket. Can this tool be purchesed from a GM dealer?

You can purchase the small star socket at AutoZone in a kit of 5. The big socket I had to get from a Snap-on truck.

 

If you see a Snap-on truck, stop, and go inside. They'll sell to you just like anybody else.

I used a regular socket to remove these bolts/nuts. Did not need the star socket. Have been interested in the same lift kit off of Ebay.

i saw the same kit...i had no doubt it would lift, but my question is...

 

Is it legal? Would it hold up in an accident?

Man, that would be great. I would love to raise my seat an inch and a half.
