On my '01 1500 Silverado 4x4 longbed the rear backing plates are rusted thru to the point that I can see daylight thru them. Even though the truck is out of factory warranty with only 42K miles I think Chevy should help foot the bill for this. Can anyone aomment on this/

If I have to foot the bill how many labor hrs. does this take?

What is a rear backing plate?

Also you may want to double check your warrenty paperwork. I seem to recall there being something about rust and body parts having a longer warrenty. Like somewhere around 100,000 miles.

Have a good day.

Corrosion of BODY sheet metal (not brake or other parts) does have a 100,000 rust-through warranty. It doesn't apply in this case.

This is the kind of thing where it helps to have a good relationship with your local dealer. If you bought the truck at a dealer and occasionally spend a few bucks in the service department, they're more likely to want to help you out. If they've never seen you before, they're much less likely to do so.

GM cannot force the dealer to perform the repairs for you, free of charge, though they can ask/pressure them to do so.

one of my backing plates rusted off, the outer portion completely off.

now the inside face of my rear rotor is exposed.

does it really matter???

do the backing plates serve a purpose ???

my parking brack still works fine.
