On my wifes trailblazer the on-star box is located under the rear seat. I was wondering where it is on my 1500 crew cab. Havent been able to find it. I sometimes loan my truck out and would like to be able to dissconect it so friends cant use my minutes up on the onstar phone, and to keep people from calling when i dont want to talk to them. I called on-star and there is no way to turn the phone off when you want to, wierd.

I'm not familiar with OnStar, but maybe there's a fuse you can pull to shut it down? Or, perhaps you can identify the power feed to it and wire in a concealed switch so you can disable it.

OTOH, if someone borrows it and is in a wreck, it might be a good feature for them to have if the airbags blow and they're unconscious.

Bummer that GM doesn't let you disable the phone while preserving the safety aspects.

If you are worried about unauthorized phone calls being made to/from your Onstar equipped GM vehicle, then I would not loan my $30,000+ rig out to people that would do things like that. Just my .02, flame away.

Two things you can do,First of all there is a fuse you can pull to disable the On-Star system,Its under the hood in the electrical center,Its a 15amp fuse marked "INFO",If you pull the electrical center cover off and look at the fuse location decal on the underside you'll see its located in the bottom right corner,Theres a cluster of four fuses together,Its the upper left one.

Or you can put in a security code (Its a four digit code) that On-Star will ask you for before it proceeds with calls coming in or going out,I don't know why they didn't tell you about this when you called but I know its there,I use it.

Heres what you do to activate it:

Press the white dot or phone button (whichever you have)

On-Star will say "On-Star ready",

Then you say "Security",

On-Star will say "Enter four-digit security code",

You say whatever four digit security code you what to use,

On-Star will confirm each digit by repeating it back to you and after the last digit, will say "Sercurity (code ####) is now ON/OFF")

Now when you want to turn it on or off you must push the white dot or phone button and when it says "On-Star ready" you say "Security" and give the system your code when prompted to.

I like this feature better than pulling the fuse because it dosen't disable the complete On-Star system, just the personal calling feature.

I second that thought.

Who cares about a phone bill. Your going to lend them a 30K truck but you cant trust them with the cell bill?

If you cant trust them by simply telling them Onstar is off limits then they arent good friends. You may havre to reset Onstar if unhookek to long. More trouble than its worth.

You don't get a bill, you buy minutes. Or that's how my '04 was set up. I do like the security code feature but how many minutes can they use up or would they stay on the phone that long? :seeya:
