I am looking at the small V8 xcab chevy or GM truck. Looking for an average of fuel milegaes out there. Most of my driving is in the country. 75 miles round trip. I really want this truck but fiel consumption is gonna be a large determinig factor. So what's you gas mileage?

My mileage is very close to the window sticker, 15 & 18,

20 on a good trip or hauling on the highway with the tailgate down. I paid $1.35 for 87 unleaded yesterday.

I get from around 17 to 18 mpg. My longest trip is about 25 miles, also have a reg cab  and the 4.8 V-8 if that makes any difference.

Depending on whether you want 2wd or 4wd, you should get upper to high teens out of the truck for everyday driving.  Alot depends on stop and go traffic, but rolling down the road at 55-60 mph these babies do surprisingly well.

Proportionately with the increase in gas prices and the fuel tank size, my 99 ext cab z71 with the 5.3 does better than the used 92 Jimmy(down-sized) I had from 97 to 99.  Much more comfortable to drive too(6'5 230).  Think long term.  And as mentioned above, freeway driving will not disappoint you.

I am averaging 14.3 overall (at 3700 miles--tons of stop and go).  On mostly highway trips, I am averaging 18-20 mpg (cruise on 70 mph).  I have the 5.3 L and 3.73 rear end, 4x4, and a soft bed cover.  The 4.8 should do a bit better.  From my previous experience, the same truck in 2wd averages 1 mpg better than 4wd.

I had a 99 xcab Sierra 2wd with a 5.3 and 3.42 rear end that averaged 20 MPG.  Daily round trip commute was 110 miles in freeways.

Just filled up this morn ($1.21 / gal).  Avg 17.6 miles/gal.

Just turned 2000 on odo.  This is my 5th fill-up and have averaged remarkably close to 17.5 on every one.  Mostly country road commute to work (5 miles each way).  Some "city" and some highway.  342 gears help.  This beast gets better mileage than my 4.0 ohv f**d exploder I traded in.

And it's a lil' bit quicker :D

I have a 5.3L powered 2001 Tahoe 4x4 with a 3.73 diff.  Typically driving 50 miles round trip commute I average 16-17mpg.  That is mixed interstate, 4 and 2 lane highway with city stop lights intermixed throughout.  On my trip to TN and KY, my best was 19.8mpg worst 18.2mpg.  I thought I'd loose a lot with TN hills and 70mph interstates.  I love my truck.  In 1 year and 1 month and I've put on 28,900 miles.

I have a '98 GMC Sierra Z71 4wd with the Vortec 5.7L and drive 89 miles each way to work. Combo city and hwy driving and I average 19.8 mpg to 20.2 mpg. But I have a light foot with these gas prices. If I put my foot in it at all the mileage drops to about 18.5 mpg. If I still lived where it is all flat I'm sure I could get better mileage. The GM is the way to go. I borrowed my brother-in-laws Dodge Ram with the 5.9L and drove it to work and the best I could get was 17 mpg and mine will out run, out power and out pull his. Plus the ride is so much better than the Dodge. I let him  drive mine and he didn't even realize it was 4wd until I told him. The push buttons confuse Dodge drivers....

Yep 14 to 15 mpg overall is what I get.  I've had as high as 17 for strict interstate not hauling anything.

I really can't understand how so many guys get into the 18 to 20 mpg range with these trucks.  My friend has a GMC 4x4 5.3L with 3.73 gears and he usually manages to average 15.5 with mixed driving.
