Factory NAV + VSS Wire

Recommended Posts

Hi guys,

I have my nav headunit in and installed...just waiting on my GPS antenna which will be here tomorrow. I'm debating on whether or not to hook up the VSS wire. If I do hook it up, can I just splice into the wires with those quick connect deals or do I need to solder it onto the terminals?

Thanks.

You will want to connnect to the VSS. The nav won't work correctly with out it. It will delay badly and lag behind your movement.

I suggest a wire tap. It is a plastic part that FOLDS over an existing wire and taps into it without cutting or soldering. You can get these at any hardware store. This is WAY too easy to ignore.

FYI...I also installed a small switch on this wire so I could turn it on and off at will. This allows me to input data even when I am moving.

The VSS is Green with a white tracer and found in the main dash wire cluster.

yes you do want to hook the vss up so it wont lag like stated above. if yours is an 05 you will need to look for the green and white stripped wire in the smaller connector on back of the radio. it might already be there. most 05's already have them. the only way to know it to look. if not it is not much trouble to hook up. you do want to tap in the the wire behind the cluster but you DO NOT really want to use a 3m connector. the vss is a sensitive wire. if the connection becomes loose down the road which it at one point will, you will get screwy stuff start happening through the BCM. I see that problem all the time hear at work.(I am a service advisor)

I soldered mine and with the bcm controlling so much and is picky on voltage and ohm drops you dont want to take a chance of it leaving you stranded.

also like stated above wheather the wire is there or not, add a switch in line to disable the vss signal so you can program going down the road, I have used this feture more than anything. good luck. if you have any questions you can email me at [email protected]. what version of the software are you running?

also your not taking the dash pad out to install the ant are you? just bubble wrap it and stick it right about the center vent, then if the dash has to come out you can bolt it down.(the bubble wrap is so it dont rattle) :tear:
