Spare tire

My 9001 GMC came from the factory with the aluminum wheels. When I had to change a flat today the spare wheel was a stamped stell one that does not match the aluminum ones. Is this normal or should I have a matching spare wheel?

All of the trucks have the same steel rim for a spare.  It's a good idea to get a matching spare rim/tire that way you can put it into the rotation when you rotate your tires every 3,000 miles or so.

Welcome to the forum.

I got the steel wheel also.

Wow, by 9001 I'd have thought they'd have done away with tires altogether.  Rich

Tho only reason I like the Steel Wheels is that they have a little bit of a deep look, I dont care for rims that are perfectly flat with the tires and have no depth. The only ones that I like are off of the full size tahoe, they are pretty much flat but I wouldnt mind having a set on my rado!

I too have the steel spare but for some reason I think mine is a chrome version. I'll check tommorrow. BTW DOes anyone know the right way to rotate tires anymore ? I use to but with the Vette I have specific rt/ft,left/ft,r/r,left/r tires and rims so I don't rotate. Is it different from 2 wheel drive ? correct me if I'm wrong here but shouldn't it be right front to left rear and left rear to left front and left front to right rear and right rear to right front.  It's been probly 13 yrs since highschool automotives.

The engineering here is that GM isn't going to bolt a $485

rim + a tire under the bed, which you probably won't clean

every Saturday, hence the steel wheel. Quite actually it will fair much better under road conditions.

Have a great one!

Mine too has a steel wheel as a spare and the tire is a size smaller than the tire that came on the truck. 265/75/16 from factory on truck and 245/75/16 as spare. As far as rotation I went to www.goodyear.com and they recommend for a 4wd to rotate in a X pattern and for 2wd a modified X. They also recommend rotation about every 4000 miles. Which means I should rotate every month which is a royal pain the the rear.

My Av 1500 w/On Road Package also came with a 16" FIRESTONE/steel rim spare.  I argued and raised he..!  Didn't get anyplace until the dealership smarted off and told me if I didn't like it, call Detroit.  Best advice THIS dealer ever gave me.  Here's my short story.....

The difference was, I did all my research on GM's website, and had copies of all their literature, which stated FIVE(5) 17" tires and wheels came with the onroad package..

A long story made short, after going thru GM, from the janitor on up to the Customer Service Manager, the dealer ate it ALL, replacing ALL five(5) tires and wheels with 17" ers, a written appology and several other freebies............

Anyone want the manager's name and direct phone # in Detroit????

Good Luck!!!!!!!!

It's sorta like the Z71..except 2wd, 17" aluminum wheels, 17" goodyear mavericks w/ white lettering, leather, captain's chaire(ft seat), sunroof, all electric,...

Basically, for all us guys who didn't need a Z71 ( or couldn't afford one, like me)
