Frozen doors?!?!

So I go out to my truck this morning, unlock the doors, pull on the handle to open it and it just sits there. Pull again...nothing...pull harder and finally get it open. It only went down to 30 last night here in Chicago and rained/snowed a little bit last night. Does anyone else have problems with their doors freezing? If they froze last night then I can only image what they'll do when it really gets cold and we have a nice big snow fall.

Had that happen all the time back home. It really sucks. Made me wish I had a remote start.

With the right weather conditions any vehicle will have frozen doors. A nice rain followed by freezing temps is a perfect combination.

 

Worst one I had was last year when it was raining at around 34 degrees and then this cold air mass came over and quickly dropped it to about 20 degrees. I had to use a propane torch to get the door of my work truck opened.

It shouldn't be too big of a problem when it starts getting really cold. As long as the temperature doesn't get above freezing, snow & ice won't melt & refreeze your door shut.

 

Last winter, I used one of those paint stirring sticks as a wedge between the door and frame. I didn't have my truck last year though, so I don't know if there is enough space between the door & frame of the truck to do that. The paint stirrer worked well, since it was thin & strong enough to use as a wedge without it breaking, and it was soft enough to not scratch the paint.

Try using some beezwax or silicone based grease on the seals. Should help keep things from freezing up.
