07 1500 Siverado Classic crew cab 7K miles, when I go over bumps at low speed I am hearing a bump sound on drivers side, sounds like a loose shock or something, I have been all under the truck and cannot find anything loose. I have bounced truck by hand and don't hear it. Next stop is the dealership, just wondering if anyone else has had this problem. truck had 3000 miles on it when I bought it and it has done it since I bought it.

I had bought a new GMC 1500crew cab last Dec. It did the same bumping almost like my old 96 ford farm truck coming down my lane to the house the first time I drove it home...Took it to the dealer, they said nothing was wrong.???Any way drove it for 19,000 like that still the same....I traded it off last week for a new 06 Gmc 2500 4x4 ,,,,and it`s even worse,,,I`ll be taking it iin this Friday (different dealer)... by the way my lane is not that rough my wifes` Bonneville doesn`t thunk like that and it has 44,000 miles on it . Maybe it`s just junky shocks I hope ,,good luck...

Do you have nerf bars or running boards? My truck made a noise every once and a while while going over bumps and I never found anything however when I changed nerf bars the noise went away

Nope no running boards or nerf bars. I swear it sounds like a loose shock or sway bar, but cant find anything wrong. I dread taking it to the dealer because I know they probably wont find it either. I hear it over speed bumps, backing out the drive way ect..

Trex54 let me know what you find out!! is your new one a spring front end or torsion bar? I have coil springs

Posted

The new one is fourwheel drive and has the torrsion bars, and the crew cab 1/2 ton was two wheel drive with coils. The 4x4 does seems to be at it`s worse on slow left hand turns. You can feel it in the steering wheel too. I thought maybe tie rods or other front-end parts could be loose but they seem real tight to me. I`ll let you know.

SOunds to me that the steering shaft needs to be re-lubed. A very common thing. I re-lubed mine myself last year and solved my rattle/bump noise problem.

Posted

It could be that the brake pads are sitting a little loose in the bracket. I had that problem and I noticed that the brake pads had about 1/32in of movement up and down (and these were brand-new brake pads). I tweaked the anti-rattle springs (clips) a little and put some of that Permatex disk brake glue on the back of the pad and that solved the problem. It could be that. I didin't think that much of a rattle could come from a brake pad but that was the problem.

I have a '06 Sierra Crew and as I type my front end clunking is supposedly being fixed at the dealer. I found this:

This bulletin is being revised to add the 2003-2007 HUMMER H2. Please discard Corporate Bulletin Number 06-08-61-003 (Section 08 - Body and Accessories).

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Condition

Some customers may comment on a pop or clunk type noise while turning or driving on uneven road surfaces. This noise can be heard and/or felt at either the driver's or front passenger floor pan area.

Cause

Under certain conditions, normal movement between the frame and body mount may cause this noise to occur.

Correction

Install an insulator at the right and left side #1 body mounts. The insulator should be installed between the upper portion of the body mount and the frame bracket. The #1 mount is the mount located just under the A-pillar. Use the procedure listed below.

Raise the vehicle on the hoist. It is recommended to use a four-post lift or strap the vehicle frame to the hoist arms.

For the left side mount only, remove the intermediate park brake cable. Perform the following steps:

2.1. Remove the nut from the park brake equalizer.

2.2. Remove the intermediate cable from the equalizer.

2.3. Depress the retaining tabs that secure the park brake cable to the frame.

2.4. Pull slightly on the cable from the mounting area in order to provide slack for body movement without binding the cable.

Remove all of the body mount bolts on the side being repaired.

Properly support the body at the #1 body mount area.

Caution: When you remove the body mount, do NOT separate the frame from the body more than is necessary. Possible personal injury and damage to multiple parts may result.

Lower the chassis accordingly in order to remove the upper portion of the #1 body mount.

Important: While the body mount is removed, check the underbody area that interfaces with the top of the body mount for excess build-up of E-Coat Primer or other foreign material. If the surface is not smooth use a 90 degree die grinder, or equivalent to remove the excessive build-up. Apply an anti-corrosion protection, P/N 12378398 (in Canada, 10952414), to the bare surface as necessary to prevent rusting.

Install the new insulator to the bottom of the top portion of the #1 body mount. The picture shows the insulators (1) location after the body mount is reassembled.

Install the #1 body mount to the frame bracket.

Perform the following procedure before installing the bolts.

8.1. Clean the bolt threads of all the original thread locking compound.

8.2. Clean the threads of the bolt with denatured alcohol or equivalent and allow to dry.

8.3. Apply Threadlocker, GM P/N 12345493 (In Canada use P/N 10953488).

Install the body mount bolts.

Tighten

For 2003, 2004 and 2005 model year, tighten the bolts to 85 N•m (63 lb ft).

Tighten

For 2006 and 2007 model year, tighten the bolts to 100 N•m (74 lb ft).

Reinstall the intermediate park brake cable.

Repeat steps 3-9 for the other side.

Test drive the vehicle to verify the repair.

Wow, what a bunch of great ideas, I am wondering if it is the body mount, it sounds like it is near the firewall. I am going to call the dealer in the am and ask about it, I will admit it makes me nervous with them taking the body loose (what other problems will they create) and getting it back on right. will also check steering shaft and as last resort will investigate the brakes. Thanks to all!! I will follow up with the results

One of my co workers in San Antonio took his 06 2500 HD crew cab in today for the rattle and they relubed his steering shaft (free re lubes for life he was told), my truck does not have a rattle it is more of a thump and the dealer told him the thump is probably the body bushing described above, will try to go to my dealer tomorrow

Thanks for the tech bulletin. I have the same noise in my 2006 sierra crew 4x4. I also thought it was steering shaft related but the symptoms listed in the bulletin are 100% identical to what I hear. I'll be taking a copy of it to the dealership when its time for my next service.

Took it to the dealer today and low and behold...........it was none of the above that was wrong!!! Evidentially I had a LF fender liner bumping the firewall when I went over bumps (that's their story at least). I am just glad the noise is gone...... for now

Did you noise ever return or was it indeed the fender liner?

Something else that can rattle is your receiver hitch. I thought sure that I had a front end drivers side rattle over speed bumps, RR Crossings, etc. My dealer asked me to remove the hitch and try it. Viola !! Noise gone.

Yotaman
