ABS Recall Discrimination!

Brought my 1999 Tahoe in for the ABS recall service. Im told according to GM VIS my vehicle does NOT fall under the 05v379000 recall for the wheel speed sensors.(IE no open recalls)

Now I'm on the hook for $700 worth of new wheel sensor repairs that GM SHOULD be paying for!

How can GM pick some 99's for recall coverage and not others? I have the symptons..dealer agrees I need two speed sensors, It's a 99 that has lived in the "salt belt (NY and MA) all its life..how can GM say the recall does not apply?

 

Please advise....I pick the truck up tonight (or tommorrw AM based on part availability.

The only thing you can try is have the dealer contact their GM service rep or call the GM help line to initiate a request for special consideration..it's woth a try. The dealer cannot do anything with GM's approval. Also, on occasion GM will issue a recall for a certain VIN range, and then add vehicles later. Of course, from the dealer's perspective, the following applies...did you buy vehicle from them (new or used), do your service your there? Best of luck.

It's not a simple process and the NHTSA is involved in safety recalls, so you can bet your boots that GM, along with the NHTSA, decided what vehicles need to be included.

 

davegee gave some good advice. Follow it. GM has a policy in place for situtations like yours. Most likely, they'll offer goodwill unless maybe you have something like 200,000 miles on the truck.

What symptoms does this cause? The breaks on my 2000 Sierra pulsate sometimes when I'm slowing down like the abs is kicking in even though it shouldn't be. I'm kind of afraid they are going to give out on me.

94K miles on the truck..I spent the better part of an hour on the phone with GM and they offered NO remedy..no one could tell me why my truck was excluded from the recall...everyone sees it fits all the criteria..but someone drew the line across the VIN file and left a whole lotta folks up $h!7s creek.

 

696.96 was the final total...should have just pulled the ABS fuse and lived with it!

My brakes pulsate when I am moving slow also, like the abs is kicking in but the petal gets really stiff. Is this what you are talking about?

at slow speeds (esp in reverse) the ABS system kicks in..vibrating the brakes as if we were on a slick surface. Unfortunately the ground is still dry and I DONT need the ABS..but once its on I dont have control of the braking so its possible I may roll into the vehicle of parking bumper ahead of me whike the ABS is "keping me from slipping"

The ABS BRAKE system is supposed to be failsafe: i.e. if it fails, it does so in a failsafe manner, and you will still have perfectly functional non-ABS brakes.
