4wd mode

For me, 2HI.

4wd-auto still has the system partially engaged. I use that when the road conditions are slippery, but not enough to warrent 4HI all the time.

There is definitely a different in the feel of the driveline when in auto-4wd and 2HI.

Run mine in 2wd unless I know I will be off road in mudd. Now in the winter its a different story Auto4 all the time! I hate crossing bridges pulling trailers in the winter. Auto4 has saved my butt more then once.

Auto 4 will cause additional wear and tear on the drive line if you leave it all the time not to mention it eats more gas than 2WD. I only engage auto 4 for slippery conditions (not snow). When it's snowing I use standard 4WD. All other times I'm in 2WD.

I keep mine in 2 High, but when it rains here, I will sometimes put it in 4 Auto. Unfortunately, I will often forget to take it off 4 Auto, and it stays on 4 Auto for days or weeks without me noticing.

Living in the Pacific North-West, I only use Auto 4WD during inclement weather and when driving on the highway.

During the Summer months I only use it Off-Road.

I'll second that. I have talked to dealership mechanics that caution against using Auto mode for everyday driving. It does cause additional wear.

I used the auto 4 on my Tahoe once on snow and did not like it very much. The drive engaged a few times when I was not expecting it and I did not like the feeling. I drove in either 2Hi or 4Hi as conditions warrented. My new 2500HD does not have the Auto mode - which suits me just fine.
