Sierra 05 Posted March 19, 2007 Posted March 19, 2007 I am annoyed at cleaning the windshield on my `05, and was informed that in `99-03 GM had the fully open wiper arms, and they changed in `04. It is hard at timed to clean the glass and hold the arm out of the way. I want to lift them up and not worry about them. Does anyone know if the 99-03 trucks had the regular wiper arms? And not the style I have? (Has a notch built into the arm not allowing it to fully move out of the way.)
Wingnut Posted March 19, 2007 Posted March 19, 2007 My new (to me) '01 has one of each. The passenger side won't stay up, but the drivers side does. But I don't think that helps you much On my '02, they both stayed up, same on my Trailblazer.
Hammer2785 Posted March 19, 2007 Posted March 19, 2007 My 2000 has the style that both stay up when you lift them.
CapitalTruck Posted March 19, 2007 Posted March 19, 2007 I think the "Powerdome" hood has something to do with it. If you have that dome in the hood it wouldn't work to pick up the blades all the way (i think they would hit the hood right at the cowl). I can't be for sure about this. I know 2005 is when they started using that stupid domed hood on all the models (not just the HD) My 2004 has raised portion of the hood, nothing like the 04 or 05's though. The blades on my 04 don't stay off the glass though. So who knows... Hell, next time you're in a parking lot just do some sneaking/checking.
redvett Posted March 19, 2007 Posted March 19, 2007 The arms didnt change but the whole front end changed in 2003 up. Hood profile is higher on my 04 than on my 00-01.

Well, I know the physical diff between the Chevy side, and on the GMC side, But I am referenceing a `05 GMC 1/2 ton. Thanks for yer input!
vxaxv17 Posted March 19, 2007 Posted March 19, 2007 02 sierra 2500HD both wiper arms will stay in the up position.
redvett Posted March 19, 2007 Posted March 19, 2007 2003 & up GM trucks got a new front end & that is where to problem lies.
DanMan_S Posted March 19, 2007 Posted March 19, 2007 2003 & up GM trucks got a new front end & that is where to problem lies. I thought it was because GM was getting cheap and cutting costs wherever possible?

I guess my full disclosure wasn't Man... just can't trust anybody these days!!

No worries man It's still better than the TBSS...It's got the "Rainsense" wipers, and if you start wiping the windshield with the ignition on...*THWAP* you get a wiper arm across all 4 knuckles.

Gee, that sounds like a new type of game! THWAP or not to THWAP! Anyone can play! Fun for all ages!

MAN... what will they think we aren't smart enough to operate on our own next? RAINSENSE... I guess that replaces COMMONSENSE! Might be cool if it works tho...
Wingnut Posted March 21, 2007 Posted March 21, 2007 It actually works perfectly. I haven't touched the wipers since I bought it, they come on right about the time I reach for them. Except every once in a blue moon, on a perfectly clear and sunny day, they'll swipe across the windshield for no reason...Makes me jump every time. They also only had it on there as an option for one year ('06), AND they only made the Superior Blue ones for one year. So I'm big pimpin the uber-rare! We need a pimp-hat smiley.
