Lbz Smoking

My grandfather purchased a LBZ DMax identical to mine last year. It only has 9000 miles on it and about two weeks ago he filled up on a trip through Utah. He said about 2 miles out of the station his truck started to ping really bad and lost power. He said it only did this on mild to hard acceleration. He just happened to look in the mirror and it was smoking like a train. All of the way to the next station. Since then he has burned off about 3 tanks of fuel, thinking this was the problem. It never did ping again, but it still smokes. I was at his house last weekend and I drove it. It seems a little more sluggish than mine, so I know there is some kind of issue. Also, it does smoke alot more than mine. If you mash on it, it will blow a steady stream of smoke, mine just blows a puff of smoke then after it starts to wind up, none at all. His still smokes alot more than mine. I have heard of bad injectors causing this, but it has gotten better since the beginning of the problem. Could an injector have just become clogged or fouled and need to be cleaned or purged? He parks his truck in the garage and sometimes it's weeks without being ran. He has actually driven about 1000 miles in the last two weeks though. I told him to have it checked under warranty. Anything I could tell him to make note of? No SES light either.

All I can say is take it to a dealer and have them check it out. Hopefully its still under warranty. Good luck.

ive seen these things go through fuel filters pretty quick before. i dont know if that is causing the issue with your truck, but i know a fuel filter being bad can cause it to be sluggish.

Stuck EGR valve? I would get the dealer to check this out. At least see what the fuel pressure is at the rail.

Shouldnt be the EGR valve, because we just unplugged ours and it didnt make it smoke anymore.

I would go to www.dieselplace.com and the guys there should be able to help you out.
